My husband has been eating from Shiv for a long time. He loves some of the curries, especially Balti Chicken, but their naan or roti is very chewy even though its made fresh i believe. You can go for curries but not roti. We have also ordered chicken biryani from here, but its a bir on the sweet side. I am sure ny husband will go for curries when he isnt in a mood to drive far.
We went to Shiv to pick up some dishes to add to a Diwali feast last night. I ordered butter chicken, tandoori chicken and a couple of chicken tikkas (bring me all the poultry). There was a few little containers of mint sauce thrown into the bag and there was sure a lot of heat packed into them. The tell tale red flecks should have been the indication of some sort of spices in what I had assumed was a cooling yoghurt based sauce. Too hot for me. Also too hot for me was the tikka. Luckily their was a raita on the table to temper the mouth burning sensation. I sampled the butter chicken too which had an interesting sauce. Not anywhere near as creamy as Im used to (I like to tell myself it was a healthy butter chicken) with quite a strong tomatoey flavour which I actually quite enjoyed. It appeared to be a family run operation doing mostly takeaway but there is some seating available. Not a bad little spot but I personally prefer the milder options down the road
Extremely authentic cuisine (he’s an internationally trained chef I believe). If you are after glitz and out to impress on your first date, forget this little place. But if you are after top quality North Indian cuisine, then this place has (on the night we visited) the BEST Indian in the Eastern suburbs of Melbourne. Fresh herbs ensured that no after stomach burn, so often the result of cheap spices. My wife and I eat out regularly, mainly Indian cuisine. The spinach pakoras were fantastic so were the curries. The only thing they slipped up on was that they added gee or butter to the naan after we asked for it dry but we wore that. Also naan bread was a bit flat as we prefer it puffy. Otherwise all else and the nice polite waitress was a bonus. The place is small and atmosphere unappealing, but worth it. I’d say perfect for take away.
Love the food here.. i come here atleast once a month to get food for my family.. No oil or ghee in the curry.. also people are nice here
It is rare to have such excellent service and quality food. Have always had very friendly staff. The meals are reasonably priced, made fairly quickly and is some of the best tasting indian food I have ever had. I would recommend takeaway from here and a movie for that special first date as the decor isn’t white tablecloths, chandeliers and fine china.
Mel. Love the food here, its delicious & reasonably priced. Nice people too.
