A really well styled interior with wall murals greeted us on entry into Yama Yama on Friday night to try out the menu. This casual Japanese restaurant injects some amazing flavour into their dishes and their menu is small enough to fit on one page but large enough for a great amount of variety.

We started with the Veggie gyoza. These veggie parcels where piping hot and had plenty of flavour, lovely and crunchy on the outside, soft and delicious on the inside.

The Sashimi plate was served pretty as a picture and was so fresh and vibrant. I found the slices perhaps a little too thick but that would bet only criticism. The wasabi was potent and cleared my sinuses.

The Beef takiyaki was an absolute flavour bomb, the dressing had a real punchy zing, each mouthful was kept fresh and made you want to go back for more. The beef was tender and nicely marinated and I just wanted to drink the left over dressing from the bottom of the bowl.

The Yama fried chicken, had a lovely crunchy coating and a sweet dressing which brought the Japanese flavour twist.

We tried both the crab and beef sliders. The Soft sell crab slider was absolutely scrumptious, the slight after burn from the chili mayo was very pleasing to the taste buds and cleverly didnt detract from the crab flavour whilst I was consuming, it was lovely to have the crab shine and the crunch was spot on. The beef slider was also super tasty and had generous amounts of beef.

The chefs special, was a generous serve of panko crumbed prawn with inside out rice. It was fresh and tasty, I loved the crunch of the prawn the smokeless of the mayo and the stickiness of the rice, a real lovely combination. The side dollop of spicy mayo on the plate brought a lovely little bite to the dish and being on the side means I could add as much or as little as I wanted.

I had the sake based fruit liqueurs tasting paddle. A perfect idea for those wanting to give sake a go.

We really enjoyed our time at Yama Yama and were thankful for being invited to try out the menu.

We headed in to Yama Yama the other night for Japanese, having never been to this side of town it was a surprise to see such a little gem . Upon entry we were greeted by the lovely staff and also a nice artwork of Mount Fuji and a geisha. The lighting inside was very dim but set the mood nicely

We were advised that the menu was recommended for sharing and they also included some large dishes if individuals wished to have their own meal too . We decided to go for the sharing option and chose the gyoza, Japanese pancake, octopus balls, sashimi, beef tataki and also the ice cream trio for dessert

The gyoza was nice and juicy, the outside wrapper was thin and crunchy which is a tick when one is to order a gyoza. The Japanese pancake was presented on a stick which I found very different, this tasted really good and we were tempted to order another one. The sashimi was fresh however we found it was a tad too thick, presentation wise it looked beautiful . The beef tataki was presented in a salad form which we liked, the beef was sliced thin and married well with the flavours of the salad. Finishing off the dinner with a trio of ice cream was a good choice, we got the pear and ricotta, chocolate and a citrusy flavoured one.

    Thanks for having us !

We were invited to Yama Yama and were pleasantly surprised upon entry. There was a cool mural of a geisha on the back wall and the wall towards the kitchen was graced by Mt Fuji. These trendy interiors coupled with a gorgeous mirror were matched by a modern ceiling installation of chairs as light fixtures. Pretty cool stuff.

We got stuck into sharing food izakaya style and enjoyed the miso eggplant and okonomiyaki. Miso eggplant is one of my favourite dishes in Japanese cuisine and we thoroughly enjoyed this. Im also a big fan of Japanese pancakes. This one was presented on a skewer which looked fabulous and tasted great but meant the size was smaller then Im used to (although the menu did mention skewer so its very clear what youll get).

The chefs nigiri plate was wonderfully vibrant and a beautifully presented colourful selection of fresh fish. I liked the addition of a beef tataki one on here too. There was no soy sauce on the table which I thought was a bit odd but perhaps its trying to get away from the more casual style Japanese food.

We finished off with the salmon curry and chicken teriyaki. The teriyaki was my favourite as Im a big fan of sweet sauces and teriyaki is right up there with my most preferred ever. There was a good mix of veg in here too all covered in that delicious sauce. The salmon curry Im a bit on the fence on. Katsu curry is typically accompanied by chicken or beef and I think pairing it with salmon potentially overpowers the delicate flavour of the fish. I still found it enjoyable on a cold night though and was overall very impressed

Small neighborhood-style japanese restaurant. Quick and friendly service. Although not authentic Japanese taste they are still okay. The beef in the Ten Don is a little tough. The tempura in the bento is also pretty average
