Have walked by here a few times so I thought I’d go in and have lunch.Lovely cafe set in an old church. It has the beautiful coloured windows and high ceilings.I got the twice cooked pork belly with couscous, pumpkin, roasted capsicum and chorizo. The pork belly had a perfect crackling that had the crunch. The pork isn’t was overcooked. Some parts of it were burnt. Everything else was delicious.
Having been past Friars Cafe an old church in the middle of town couple of times now I’ve noticed that there is always a bike club, The Addams Family here.So I decided to try this cafe assuming it must be alright. My strong skinny latte was average. There was good froth but I wasn’t keen on the flavour of the coffee and it wasn’t that strong. I ordered scrambled eggs on sourdough toast and that’s exactly what I got. W only 1 piece of toast which was unfortunate as the bread was delicious. My scrambled eggs were really good but lacked seasoning for me. Some salt or pepper would have But the service was friendly and overall this was ok.
Another Zomato find, this time for a takeaway breakfast. Set in a Century old church, Friars cafe is extremely spacious yet it exudes a cosy homely feel. Their cake display looked divine and cake at any time of the day is a winner for me. However, I’m more of a savory eater when it comes to breakfast. The order comprised of banana bread, brekky wrap, porridge, baby chino and a chai latte. All (food items) Barr from the porridge where scrumptious. The porridge was a little stiff and lacked any real taste- yes, yes I know it generally does. However, most restaurant (porridge) varieties have a fruit compote or cinnamon and honey which adds that zing! But sitting for 10min before being devoured probably didn’t help. Nonetheless make a visit to Friars when passing through the Goulburn valley area you won’t be disappointed.
A good place to go for a coffee or breakfast/brunch. The eggs benedict is cooked to perfection. The setting is magnificent, within a renovated chapel. Service is polite and professionalVerdict: Rhodolite garnet
Went back for Sunday breakfast after visiting 3 years ago. Really good setting inside a 100 year old church. Very good range of breakfast options including for our vegetarian son. Catered well for our 2 year old granddaughter with colouring pencils and kids meal options. Good service. Better for breakfast than lunch. Would rate 4.5 for breakfast but 3.5 for lunch. Will definitely return when next in Shepparton.
