A common sight growing up in Australia was the rushed pasta dish cooked up by busy Mum’s to tired Dad’s and hungry children. 30 minutes and $20 and the feeding of the family is over and Mum can finally rest.The dish served to me at La Porchetta in Shepparton costed around the same amount but was a serving for one. It was my first time at a franchise Italian restaurant so I kept my expectations fairly low. I was still disappointed. The tired Dad’s and hungry kids would’ve balked and recoiled at the atrocity served on that fateful night.How could something that is generally regarded as simple and unaffordable to make at home be so poor at a restaurant? That’s a rhetorical question as I am certain that I do not want to know the answer. All I know is that undercooked pasta with overcooked, dry meat coated in what tasted like cheap ketchup isn’t worthy of the table of a busy, blue collared family and is certainly not fit to be served in a restaurant.
