The venue has a lovely aethetic, lots of green hanging plants, modern decor and large room out the back I was hopeful, Sorrento needs this sort of place. I order the beef brisket with coleslaw, pickles and chips takeaway. I requested the chips be extra crispy. Upon arriving home-(5 min walk away) I was starving and salviating, oh dear when I opened the container I was greeted by soggy chips and no coleslaw. I rang them back and hightailed back to get the coleslaw. While there I saw other meals going out with lovely golden crispy chips not like the limp ones I was given. I did complain and they graciously offered to make more. So after around a 10 minute wait I am handed my takeway coleslaw in an open container, I started to protest, waitress didn’t get it, so I just moved my cripsy chips over and popped the coleslaw in. Once I returned to my dinner, the beef brisket was tasty and reasonably tender, the chips lacked flavour and the coleslaw was red and green cabbage drowning in mayo. Very dissapointing meal. I wanted it to be good but unfortunately you are better of spending your $$$ elswhere. In my view given my proximatey to the cafe they could have offered to deliver my colelsaw as they did have six staff on most of whom were bored, or offered to provide me with a whole new meal. Mistakes happen and it is how restaurants handle those errors which makes or breaks a restaurant.
Busy place but was seated very quick. Great quality food. Even though was extremely busy, I was served promptly by friendly staff and food didn’t take long either. The fried chicken burger was great, will definitely be back.
My first impression of this place from looking inside from the street and scanning the menu on the front window was that it was nice but that the food was probably overpriced by about $4-$7 a main course. After a lunch here I’d say they’re unsure whether they’re running a cafe or a restaurant. Currently they’re not fully succeeding at being either. The cafe occupies a nice corner position at the far end of the Sorrento shopping strip. It is a deceptively large place. It looks like a small shop front from the street but it actually has a very large area out the back. The fit out is pretty good too. The abundant greenery is also a nice touch.I chose the gumbo with seafood and chicken off the specials menu today. My partner had the lobster roll with chips. The gumbo was $28, the roll $27. The gumbo was ok is the best I’ll say. The seafood was five nice scallops. The dish had a pleasant enough taste but without any deep flavours. It was a bit like tomato based stew with no evident flavoursome spices. It had a nice small bit of roast chicken. It’s one highlight was probably some good chorizo which saved the dish from being overly bland. The toast with the dish consisted of two smaller slices from the ends of a tapered loaf, a curious choice for mine as the pieces were small of course. They felt a bit like the end of the day off cuts. The lobster roll was ok too. There was a good amount of lobster in the roll but the actual lobster taste was masked by an overabundance of mayonnaise. The chips with the roll were potato crisps not the expected hot chips. There was nothing in our experience today to suggest that the cafe has anything special about it. The food was just ok without many particularly memorable features. Both the lunch and brekky items were as I suspected about $4-$7 over priced. I doubt we’d consider returning here.
