I was on the go and needed a quick bite to eat. I sussed out the restaurants along the fringe of South Melbourne market and noticed Bambu.

I was there quite early so very quiet with only a few tables with patrons. The restaurant has a nice vibe, very modern with a great menu and friendly staff.

It was happy hour so I ordered a Peroni, gotta love happy hour! My salmon fish cakes were just outstanding, wow the dressing was just so tasty and refreshing. The taste of citrus, chilli and fish sauce along with the other herbs was just lovely, the fish cakes themselves divine.

Highly recommend and will most definitely be back if in the area.

First time there for lunch.Ordered the pulled pork. Was nice but small serve. My partner ordered Thai beef salad.Just salad dressing, lettuce, cherry tomatoes, cucumber with beef .A small glass of wine $10.. Up market Asian eating place in the market.
Though it was not crowded, service was slow.

Ordered 3 baos for $18 and we thought hands down – the soft shell crab was a clear winner. The price point was quite steep for what it is – 3 small wraps- and it was quite hard to share the baos. But what a tasty messy delight this was! Happy to come back again.

    I would rate 4.5

Right locate in the south melb market . Super busy during the weekend . Take away GUA BAO booth available along the side.

We ordered yellow curry , pork belly and get one each of gua bao.

    #GUA BAO
Korean chicken is the best , yum ! Chicken is tender ~ Soft shell crab was alright , just standard . ~ spicy tofu and pork was not really good taste.

    #Pork Belly
    Good with rice

    #Yellow Curry
Outstanding ! A bit salty but yum

Definitely come back for another try.

Sunday brunch time is always a good time to put in da weekly routine and South Melbourne Market is one of the best place to gather with besties for food and coffee with such a lot of choices and values as well as quality, treated with local products. So yeh, we decided to try Bambu, a modern style of mixed Asian restaurant with vary choices of goods on offer that located on the side of the market hall. A nice place that has both outdoor and indoor seating with the vibrant and attractive atmosphere of the Sunday market. Staffs were extremely friendly and efficient with good attentive services at time. Food were served with quite generous portions, good taste of Asian Hawkers style with nice decors that might appeal your feeling. However, if you are a traditional style with respective to authentic taste , this might not for you, but maybe a good try. Having da sticky beef ribs, bbq salmon fillet, pad thai and bbq pork buns. The beef ribs were nice, abit chewy and tenderness, with the crispy of the salmon, pad Thai was also great to go. Price was ok and reasonable for their proportions.
Very recommend this place for the amazing and delectable Asian food in modern styles , definitely will come back soon.
