Had the bread and fish here served via the kiosk stationed outside. The fish (and other seafood like octopus) looked and smelled tempting, but what we got was pretty much just bread and fish as described, and quite mediocre. The fish was well cooked but plain tasting, and the size of the fish was too small for the bread it came with, such that when you eat them together you can hardly taste the fish. There was a bit of salad that came with it as well, but that didn’t have much taste either.
I get that they probably wanted to let the freshness of the fish speak for itself, but in this case I think it didn’t speak much at all. I wouldn’t consider it good value for money.
I have been here a couple of times, the only complaint I have is the limited tables they have! Food is great here, staffs is friendly and also helpful. Not sure what to order? No worries, just ask them for recommendations
Beautiful day to be sitting outside, inside is a bit cramped. Oyster is so fresh, marinara pasta is a must have, so good! Also had the grilled fish which was very nice as well. Will visit again next time Im in South Melbourne Market.
I would rate 4.5 !
We tried Cajun flathead and Seafood Marinara .
#Cajun Flathead
Flathead was fresh . Chargrill smell so good .
#Marinara
Feast ! Full of Fresh seafood and well cooked pasta.
The only 0.5 point I wouldnt give it full 5 rate because the waiting time . They are so busy to serve the food and provide service. Understandable ~
I will definitely come back during week days .
Will come back for:
+ Grilled Octopus
+ Grilled Stingray
I really wanted to love this place but got a mixed bag of dishes that kind of made the experience a mixed one. We had the spaghetti anchovies which I unfortunately did not like the texture of (particularly the mashed anchovies) on the spaghetti that had a slightly bitter and fishy after taste. The chad potatoes were ok, but needed to be more crispy also. The star though must be the seafood. The grilled octopus was fresh, and smokey from the grill and really quite delicious and scrumptious (although it was a small serving for the price). The sambal stingray was great. Generous serving of fresh Stingray that was cooked to perfection. The sambal sauce was perfect and made to really lift the flavours of the stingray. Service was prompt and attentive. Prices was above average. Will be back to give this place another shot.
Renowned seafood restaurant in the heart of the South Melbourne Market precinct, Claypots Evening Star is a great place with a relaxed vibe and live jazz band which makes it the funky sister of its St Kilda venue. Seafood was fresh with loads of options from king prawns, lobster tails, fresh oysters and various full fishes down fried/grilled or down cooked in a sauce. Staff are friendly and made us feel welcome. Definitely worth a visit.
This place has great vibes in the day, with a jazz band and the market crowd; and transforms into a beautiful quiet corner of th by night.
They serve up the best marinara in town and all the other seafood dishes are also fresh and delicious. We are so lucky we live only 10 minutes away – this is indeed the neighbourhood gem.
