Sweet little Japanese cafe in South Melbourne. Karage chicken dishes were spot on, perfection. Matcha sweets topped off a perfect meal. Highly recommended.

A very small cafe so we had to sit outdoors under the sun, would be great if they provide some shade. Interesting menu. The karage fried chicken was nice. Portion was small though, too little rice & udon for the carb lovers.

This place should be called kuute cause it’s adorable. White brick walls decorated with illustrations of menu items, kitschy chopsticks, rustic-looking Japanese sweets. I didn’t try any, but the savoury fare I did have was great. I can vouch for the tofu katsu sandwich featuring kouya dofu (i.e. frozen and thawed tofu that absorbs flavour so much better). The salad, on the other hand, has silken tofu and lots of other add-ins, plus a nice sesame dressing. All decently priced. Highly highly recommend this spot.

I love the concept of having Japanese breakfast in one of the cafe scene in Melbourne. The decor was great and environment is relaxing. Very fancy with all the wording over the menu and it does looked great in picture. Taste wise, portion and price doesnt impress. The food is on the salty side of the tastebud.
    1. Had the fried chicken which is salty enough and provided with soy dipping sauce. I would suggest mayo sauce instead to mild down the saltiness and give it more balance flavour.
    2. Hojicha latte which I feel like sweeten milk tea and thats all.
    3. The grill salmon don is small and should avoid at the price is $18 and the sauce is really salty.
    4. The breakfast for the hungry is not bad actually. Very good for photo and worth the effort of having so many things to sample. I would see there are lots of carb with 2 rice ball, 1 noodle, 1 slice of pancake. Then follow with a small loin of chicken, half portion of the salmon (most worthy) from the don mentioned, 3 half pieces of meatball, a poached egg and some veg to finish off.
I had great experience here in the scene but with lighter wallet after that.

Ive been going to KUU for a few years now, and they have been so consistent on each visit!

One of my usual orders is their agedashi tofu and their chicken katsu!

Their agedashi tofu is so lightly battered. I love all the different vegetables they use in it, especially the sweet potato balls! The broth is super flavourful as well.

The chicken katsu is always nice and crispy! If you love cheese, definitely get the optional cheese with it – you wont regret it.

Their matcha ganache cake and yuzu tart are heavenly! Make sure to save your stomach for dessert. 🙂

The only downside is that some times the food does take a bit long to come out. And as the store is quite small, the wait can be a bit long.

I love this little cafe in the middle of nowhere in South Melbourne. Kiddo and I managed to nab the last table because it was so busy during lunchtime on a weekday.

Kiddo wanted the prawn udon salad and we ordered fried chicken to share. I also ordered a soy iced mocha. They somehow managed to give me a hot matcha latte but they quickly corrected it when I told them they got my order wrong.

The prawn udon salad was so fresh and delicious and even though kiddo said he is full he couldnt help but kept eating it lol.

The deep fried chicken pieces are well seasoned and succulent. Yum

A girlfriend and I ate here recently, thanks to her recommendation. The cafe if very cute, quite small inside. The menu was really good and I was torn on what to order!

We both ordered the fried chicken dish, every bite I had was delicious and even better when I dipped into the sauce.

I loved the chopsticks, very creative. I will definitely be back to try some other things on the menu.
