We’ve come here a couple of times, both times on a Dimmi 50% off food booking. Atmosphere is always lively and loud with a live and interactive band. A little too loud for my liking to be honest but I appreciate that lots of people who come here do want to have some fun. Staff are also friendly though the first time we went we had someone inexperienced and made a few errors.
We ordered a platter for 2 the first time we went, and a platter for 1 + the pork belly the second time. We also ordered the apple strudel for dessert both times. Portions were very generous assuming you factor in the 50% off which works out to about $20 per person for mains; I’m unlikely to pay for it at full price. Everything tasted good – lots of crackle, sausages were juicy, the bier jus had a strong beer taste as well. I thought the amount of bier jus they gave you for the platter for 2 was quite little, and we had to ration it out. The apple strudel was also tasty with flaky puff pastry and a nice apple and cinnamon taste that went very well with the accompanying ice cream. I was really full both times but somehow still managed to scoff down the dessert practically single handedly. We also managed to takeaway roughly a meal’s worth of leftovers from the platter for 2.
If you’re looking for a place to let loose and enjoy some entertainment, this is a pretty good place for that. Do go for the Dimmi 50% off booking and remember it only applies to food, not drink.
Came on a 50% off Dimmi booking and *only* at that price would I consider the experience passable. Ordered the Munich Platter (original price $80) and while it looked impressive the quality was just not there. The pork belly meat felt very mushy and had no pork texture, I understand tender meat but this meat had no texture at all. The biggest fail was probably the potato mash which also had none of the softness you would expect from real potato mash and my partner and I instantly knew something was wrong with it. It tasted like the processed, instant potato mash you get with fast food potato & gravy. The sausages were OK, and the best elements probably the pork knuckle which was crunchy and the schnitzel which tasted fresh. The side of Mac & cheese we ordered was an abomination, no detectable cheese taste or stringyness of melted cheese. The sauce was the consistency of water and flavourless. The two redeeming things about this place is the view on the side of the Yarra and also the $5 beer happy hour which is a steal for 500mL of beer and apple cider. The German beer tasted like the real deal but the Monteith happy hour apple cider was oddly bland and after two (1Lt) alcohol I didnt really feel that buzzed. Not sure if its just the brand of cider but I drink apple cider frequently and have never tasted such watery cider?!?
