Wow, just wow. It was my partner’s birthday and we had a few days off together, we decided to go here and try it out, we hadn’t really investigated or heard anything about it. When we arrived (it’s hard to find) we were initially disappointed because it was so small, it appeared to be just a coffee outlet.
Damn were we wrong. We were seated by very friendly staff, and looked over the menu. It’s a small menu, and each dish is influenced by the heritage of the namesake Bayano (a West African slave from the 16th Century taken to Panama who led a revolt).
We ordered two toasties, a spiced cauliflower and a cheesy mushroom. They were presented beautifully, the bread was fresh and crunchy, the fillings were ample but not overflowing, really divine.
Then arrived the gumbo soup, it was thick and rich from a masterful roux, full of okra, black eye beans and kale, truly a pleasure to eat.
We also ordered the cheese pate dish, served with Damona pate and the most incredible toasted baguette.
The coffee and tea were incredible, the staff were super friendly, everything was vegan, and the decor was just beautiful ( not a single dangling oversize lightbulb with red cord to be found, yay).
Do yourself a favour and go check out this place. Its small size belies the incredible food they hhave on offer. 10/10
