it’s cheap but I’d rather pay an extra $3 or $4… fried flake and potato cake were tasteless and chips were too salty.
the dude from the staff was really cool.
music was bad and loud but it’s kinda classic for Melbourne cheap restaurant .

Deep fried goodness is sold here. We usually get the Belvga pack which has fish of the day, dim sim, a potato cake, serving of chips plus we order 2 extra potato cakes. Service is great, they are always busy and usually let you swap the tartar sauce with tomato.

Tiny portion of Salmon. Burnt to crisp – literally cremated and as dry as the desert. The chips were oily and soggy. Service was absolutely horrendous and the interior looks like a 50s canteen.
Hunky Dory eats this place alive in every possible way.

Super satisfying! Had the catch of the day which was their Blue Grenadier (Sundays). Much better grilled than fried and went so well with the brown rice. Perfectly seasoned fish. $14 for this set.

Ordered the char grilled calamari with rice. Good fresh seafood and good flavours… it did feel a bit oily which is strange as it was grilled but maybe they used a bit too much oil. Overall very good and would come back.

Great option for fish and chips. The service is quick and the food is delicious. I had the grilled calamari pack with Greek salad. The calamari was incredibly tender and the Greek salad had a generous amount of olives and feta cheese.

Nothing special. I wouldn’t come here again.
If you want chips that are from the local fish and chip shop when you were a kid then this is your place, but these days when above average chips are the normal, the chips here don’t cut it.

On a recent trip to Tassie, in a small town on the East Coast we ate amazing chips that were crunchy and fluffy on the inside. From an establishment in South Yarra I expect a lot more.
