Burch & Purchese has been on my list of places to try for ages now, and I was finally able to do so for my birthday! The store is very cute and pink-themed, with edible artwork displayed along the walls, and an open kitchen at the back where you can see the chefs making everything. The long glass cabinet is filled with the most beautiful looking desserts, and along the wall you can purchase a range of different sweets and packaged snacks.
The staff at the counter are extremely friendly, and gave us recommendations on which cakes to get based on our preferences in taste. We were even offered to sample some of their desserts whilst we were making our decision.
After moments of admiring all the cakes on display, we decided to get 6 of the small cakes and 4 of the tubes. They were packed very nicely into the box, and all the desserts came with a slip which had the name and description of the dessert, which was extremely helpful as I dont think we wouldve been able to remember which one was which!
Okay, now onto the desserts! Every single one of them was unique and had an array of different textures and flavours. Our favourites included:
– Flavours of Peach Melba cheesecake: This one was featured on Masterchef 2018! I loved the crunchy biscuit base paired with the smooth cheesecake. The peach and raspberry flavour work really well together. Really impressed!
– Strawberry & Apple Crumble Tart: Loved the combination of apple and strawberry! The apple flavour is quite prominent, especially in the apple mousse and jelly.
– Prickly Pear, Pineapple, Lime: I had no idea what prickly pear was supposed to taste like, but the staff described it as similar to a rhubarb. However, paired with the lime and pineapple, it created a delightful tropical dessert. Probably the lightest option we tried!
– Yuzu, Toasted Sesame, White Chocolate, Lychee (tube): The combination of citrus and sesame is absolute heaven! Very light on the palate and not too sweet. Make sure to dig deep to the bottom to get the amazing sesame caramel!
– Coconut, Passionfruit, Ginger, Mint (tube): I loved the salted oat & ginger crumble as it provided a very nice contrasting texture to the passionfruit chef and jelly. Usually Im not a fan of ginger but you couldnt really taste it in this one!
– Explosive Raspberry Milk Chocolate (tube): This is one of their most famous desserts. A concoction of different layers of raspberry, making it pleasantly tart. Theres a bit of a surprise inside which we definitely did not expect, but I wont spoil it!
Overall, I think we preferred the fruity flavours over the chocolate-y ones, as they were more light and less sweet. Some of the chocolate-y ones, such as the Chocolate & Coffee Tart, was a little on the dense side and a bit sweet for our liking. However it was still very enjoyable and if given the opportunity I would definitely try them all again!
Had truly an amazing dessert feast from B&P and it definitely made my day! If it werent for the slightly inconvenient location (why cant they open a store in the CBD?!), I would definitely be back as a regular!
Burch and purchase sweet studio in South Yarra. I did order a birthday cake two years ago. Small sweet studio but has a large selection of cakes. I do like their cakes but honestly it is a bit expensive and small size

This place dares to combine weird and wonderful flavours together to create pieces of edible art.
We had a soursop, strawberry and lime cake which was literally out of this world! We have never seen such flavour combinations before but a genius must have thought it up because it tasted like beautiful magic.
The cake itself had multiple layers consisting of lime, coconut and strawberry sponge, soursop cream, strawberry cream, lime curd plus soursop and white chocolate mousse. Sounds like a bit of a mess right? But somehow, the end result was anything but a mess.
Their high score is well deserved.
Not only were the desserts aesthetically pleasing, they taste exceptional as well. The flavor combinations are done well with a mix of sweetness and tartness.
Coconut, passionfruit, mint and ginger cake. This Burch & Purchese cake consists of salted oat and ginger crumble, passionfruit curd, coconut ‘caviar’, passionfruit jelly, mint jelly, coconut mousse, white chocolate velvet spray, white choc and mint wafer. So many components in one!
3.7 for me. Very nice cakes. Delicious….. maybe a little too rich but definitely must try
Although not a cafe you can chill out. Only a few seats at front….
This place is a must for any dessert lover. With desserts created by the ever so talented Darren Purchase, you’re sure to find something to treat yourself with
