I came here with group of friends to enjoy dessert post our huge dinner date. The place was dimly lit, I am guessing they were trying to cater more for couples? Anyways, since everyone live closed by this was the perfect place for us. The cakes on their display menu were huge hence we decided to order two and the 6 of us ordered our own choice of drink. The slices of cakes were pretty decent and the drinks were average. As of the main meals, I couldn’t give a concrete review for that as we didn’t try it. Overall, it was OK. The staff were alright. Not very friendly not too aloof as well.

My family and I were looking for a late dinner on Christmas night and due to the lack of options, we ended up at Chapellis, located at 571 Chapel St near Toorak Rd, Sth Yarra.

I was pleased to find there was wheelchair access through the side door but disappointed to see many, many stairs to the restrooms. The restaurant was madly busy especially at this late hour and being Christmas. It just reinforces the incredible lack of late night eating joints in Melbourne.
We were shown to our seats quite promptly and given menus straight away but we had to ask for water. The menu was just a small holiday menu and not their usual full menu.

We ordered entrees of Aranchini Balls and Bruschetta. Both dishes came out without much delay and were nicely prepared. Both came with a tasty salad and the balls came with some tomato salsa which was a nice touch. The Arancini balls were crunchy and golden on the outside and smooth and soft inside. They were a pleasure to eat. The Bruschetta was fresh and vivid and with just the right amount of balsamic so as to not make the bread soggy and nor was it too hard to eat. Perfect.

For our main courses, we ordered the Beef Burger, the scotch fillet steak, the salmon, the beer battered barramundi and the char-grilled chicken breast. Every meal was delicious. The steak was cooked just how we asked for it, the Barramundi was crunchy and crispy on the outside and the fish just melted in your mouth. Salmon was also cooked perfectly and flavoured with a lemon butter sauce which was very appealing. The Burger was huge but it was also $30 so we expected something substantial. Salad and Chips came with most of the meals and the chips were big, crunchy, well cooked and seasoned and the salad was fresh with a tangy dressing.

We made lots of changes to our meals and our waiter was most obliging and patient. The dishes came out exactly how we asked for them, with no mistakes. We finished off with an Apple Strudel and ice cream and a couple of cocktails. The apple strudel was delicious. It was packed full of apples, with a crispy, flakey pastry.

All in all, we were extremely happy with our experience at Chapellis. The only downside was the astronomical prices, but thats what you get with it being a public holiday and enjoying the convenience of a 24hr restaurant.

Been here a few times (usually late night) and it has been an alright experience. One of the better places to go late at night. Meals are decent size however you can tell they are rushed and done in bulk. Staff isnt too bad, a bit slack at times but it gets the job done. They arent exactly inviting but they arent too rude. Not too bad of a place
