So this was a real winner, I would recommend this place to anyone. The service was great and the decor was beautiful. The food left us feeling extremely satisfied. My favourite dish was the spanner crab hands down! You must have that dish when you go! Next time for me will be a round of spanner crab and the pineapple dessert – amazing!
We decided to go fine dining for our anniversary. Heard a lot of good reviews about this restaurant and we had to go to see for ourselves. As expected the food was crazy good, very unique and modern. The staff were very friendly and professional. Highly recommended. I would say its very PUCKALIOUS
This place blew me away, new favourite for sure, the food is out of this universe. I cant tell you how good this place is. Everything we tried was so flavoursome and quality. We started with oysters, ox tongue and pork rillettes and then had the smoked spanner crab with burnt butter and flat breads which was sensational.
For mains we had the special of the evening which was the ribeye on the bone for two with shiitake mushrooms and roasted potatoes in hay. This was one of the best rib eyes we have ever had.
Cant recommend this restaurant anymore!
The service, wines and food is definitely something to rave on about!!!!
Matilda did not disappoint. Scott Pickett is definitely talented. The ambience was beautiful. The service was amazing with the waiters being attentive. The waiters gave a back story to all the food and was able to answer any questions asked. The duck is a must try along with the crab. Will definately be back to try more.
We went here late Nov for my partner’s birthday dinner and I couldn’t be more excited, however, the meal was very disappointing for us both.
Walking through the door was absolutely amazing. The decor was classy and the smokiness coming from those ovens had our mouths watering.
We asked to be seated at the bar since we wanted to be in the midst of the action, and at the start, it was pretty entertaining listening to the staff get berated first by Scott Pickett himself, (apparently none of the tables that night had received their orders on time…not a good sign) and then the head chef (Hell’s kitchen styles). But pretty soon the charm wore off as the heat turned up.
Our starters were OK, nothing I really liked that much, the ox tongue in particular was very salty. The came the octopus, which I still regret not returning since it was virtually inedible, being far too tough and salty.
There was something a little off about the crab and flounder dish too. I found one side of the fish too salty and the other side completely flavorless, we honestly found ourselves raving about how well cooked the beans were…
The ABSOLUTE WORST thing about the night were our ribs. The SIGNATURE lamb ribs, which diners have forbidden the restaurant from ever removing from the menu, apparently! We watched in anticipation as the rack was removed from the oven, but this quickly turned to horror as the chef clumsily hacked them apart in front of our eyes. The 2 resulting portions were clearly unequal.
One plate of ribs went under the heat lamp 30cms away from us.
And then we waited, and waited, and waited. Surely they must be someone else’s? Surely the staff wouldn’t leave their signature dish there to dry out and overcook just so they could serve all the dishes together? SURELY? We were crying inside! Those poor ribs were horrible, dry and salty and just plain sad. The birthday boy returned them after one bite, an unheard of event, and had the waiter laugh at him in the process.
To make matters worse our waiter didn’t remove the ribs from our EXPENSIVE bill until I reminded him.
I was going to write a letter, but honestly felt so defeated afterwards that I couldn’t even bring myself to think of the meal til now.
Matilda is a very sexy restaurant. As soon as you walk in, you’re in the mood for a glass of wine and some bloody good food.
We ordered the bread with rillettes, the salmon roe tartlet, the Lake’s Entrance octopus, the spanner crab and the duck for two. The standout dishes were most definitely the spanner crab, which was served with the most delightful pillows of warm flatbread, and the duck, the best part of which was the breast. Fanned out on the plate and blushing a rosy shade of pink, it was everything a girl could ask for. The duck heart was also a delicious morsel, but less delicious were the lettuce cup and the confit leg parts of the bird, which were definitely outshone.
For dessert, we managed somehow to squeeze in the tarte tartin with smoked ice-cream and the imperial mandarin desserts. The tarte tartin was the best I’ve had yet, the caramelised apples stopping justshort of burnt and emanating a glorious bitterness which was dulled by the sweetness of the smoked ice cream. An amazing pairing. The imperial mandarin dessert was different, but for me, had too much acidity (I know, blasphemy), which is not my preference when it comes to dessert. My qualms would have been put to rest with something creamy to balance out this otherwise amazing meal.
What a restaurant! The decor and ambience is amazing and the staff are very welcoming and genuinely friendly.
Booking is hard so make sure you book well in advance.
As for the food the starters and entrees were a hit and miss. The grilled sardines from the special menu was delicious and had a very Mediterranean flair to it. The bone marrow bun was so so, the lamb ribs were decent but came with an onion dip which amplified the flavour. Both my wife and I did not like the ceviche at all. Quite disappointing and the main reason why my score dropped from a 5 to a 4.
Definitely try the barramundi as it was delicious and my wagyu rump steak was phenomenal. I would definitely just come here just for the rump!
We were too full from the food to try dessert but would definitely come here again very soon!
