Taking inspiration from one of Chinas most unique and culturally preserved regions, newcomer Naxi Folk combines traditional Yunnan culture and cuisine with all the attributes of Melbournes beloved dining scene, right in the heart of Hawthorns Glenferrie Road!
So, what is Yunnan cuisine exactly? The Yunnan Province is a melting pot of cultures with the largest number of ethnic minority groups in South-Western China. The varied cuisine blends the rich flavours of Sichuan and Myanmar with the fresh piquancy of Thai, Vietnamese and Laos fare. Fresh and fiery!
Tucked in amongst Hawthorns thoroughfare, Naxi Folk is inconspicuous with its dark timber and bamboo exterior panelling. As you walk in, the ambience is cosy and inviting with warm lamp shades, powder pink hues and long tables, apt for big groups!
Naxi Folk wholly embrace Yunnan banquet-style dining and take daily bookings for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Must try dishes include their signature Yunnan-style share plate, crispy chicken caramel spare ribs and for those breakfast lovers, a delicious breakfast bao.
Visit on Friday or Saturday nights to experience traditional Yunnan tea cupping ceremonies for diners, performed by the staff!

Loved the concept behind Naxo folk and was expecting a punch of flavour. I still really enjoyed my meal and would come back again but it is fusion! The porridge was probably one of my favourite dishes. Beautifully plated and tasted like home!
