Efficient. Tasty. Good Chinese food no frills, quick and to the point. Love the fried calamari with spicy salt and pepper. My husband hates Chinese food (some people are strange like that) but didnt want to come but I coaxed him into coming and he admitted he enjoyed it. Quite likely the best Chinese restaurant on the Victoria street strip. Slightly annoyed at reading the menu which said cash only so ran all the way to Woolies to get cash and then being told that they accept cards now. Still great though.
Highly recommended!

I have eaten at both the Vic Street and South Yarra Pacific House for many years- but I have found both to have gone downhill as late.
I recently dined in and noticed South Yarra has put up the prices on quite a lot of the menu items I used to frequently order, which is fine if the quality has remained the same, but sadly it has not.
For $13, I would expect a rather tasty combination fried rice- and it has gotten blander and blander and must be loaded with salt or MSG because I am always extremely thirsty and I get a headache after consuming it. The prices for the roast duck and crispy pork combo has also been hiked up- quite substantially and both came out luke warm and the quality and quantity was quite disappointing. The veggie spring rolls were flash fried so the pastry came out crisp, but the inside was freezing cold.
The service has *always* been hit and miss- and despite the copious wait staff milling around, they are only keen on giving you a bill or ripping your plates away- you literally have to cause a scene to ask for your drink (3 times) soy sauce (4 times) or anything else you request. I know many Cantonese places have terrific food but terrible grumpy service, and this used to be the case, but I am not even sure the food will keep me coming back as a long term customer anymore. Such a shame.
Excellent Cantonese food for the
Most part. Sweet and sour battered pork is my absolute favourite. I also like how they bring you a hot bowl of complimentary soup before your meal- its just like my grandma in Hong Kong makes. The Chinese broccoli in garlic sauce is stir fried to perfection-crunchy and cooked on the inside. The bbq meats are a big hit and miss- sometimes the duck is too dry or salty but overall the food is consistently good! Its a reliable local gem

Just like Melbourne’s weather, you never know what you’re going get at Pacific House. Some days the food is really good, some days it’s substandard, but most of the time, it’s alright.
If ever in doubt, go for the roast meats. However don’t expect the same standard to apply to all Pacific Houses. I personally find that the Pacific House in CBD does roast meats better, but this one is pretty decent.
When we dine with friends, we often order a variety of dishes to share. The one thing that will always appear is the salt and pepper dish – be it in the form of pork, chicken, prawn or even tofu. The Chinese 5 Spice powder and the crunch that accompanies this dish are what I always look forward to.
The seafood are generally fresh, and cooked rather well. Same goes for the veggies.
There’s a no nonsense approach to the service here, and some staffs can be friendlier than others. The food is what you’re after here, nothing else.
