First of all the service was awesome, the owner was super friendly and helpful. The venue was absolutely aesthetic, great place for Instagram! The food was pretty average, nothing special.
Will come back for:
+ Burger with the lot
+ Onion rings fries
+ Curly fries
+ A&W root beer
+ Cherry Pie
I like how they rebooted this place and really bring back some fun from where it used to be.
The food in this place is fine. Generous servings, and some of the nibbles like the Onion rings and curly fries were great. We tried the hubcap burger and a burger with the lot and I prefer the bigger burger as it just had more ingredients/flavors. All this are washed down with a nostalgic hit of A&W root beer which really hits the spot. The cherry pie can be a bit sweet eaten by itself, but mixed in with the vanilla ice cream it was perfect. It is a bit special with the delightful wait staff gliding around on roller skates and occasionally breaking out in song and dance. This really do elevate a simple dinner into an event. A great hang out space with some friends for a few laughs.
My friend found this retro style restaurant & had wanted to go so we went to check it out. It is quite a big space! But as soon as you walk in we had a waiter on rollerblades sliding around everywhere which was pretty awesome & he was really good at it as well. My friend & I both got the hound dog combo. I got the blue heaven thickshake with curly fries whereas my friend got the chocolate thickshake with cream & a cherry on top with onion rings. The thickshakes were sooo sweet & they also gave you the extra they made so you basically get 2 drinks which I thought was really good of them. One thing that I wasnt expecting was the size of the hot dog! It was huge! I was expecting like a normal size hot dog but this was like twice the size. It was delicious & definitely filling. It did cost us around $30 each for our meals but I would like to go back again as we didnt make room for dessert!
Have been here a couple of times its quite old now used to be on the corner of toorak rd and chapel St . burgers and chips are passable but nothing special…one cool thing about it is the girls on roller skates delivering food to your table but thats about it. The burger scene has changed so much in the last 5 years in melb and these guys are pretty far behind…
Great place if youre looking for dirty food like we were, and their shakes and dessert are also a nice treat! The vibe of the place is awesome with their retro American-diner theme; wait staff skate around and also perform! They are also regularly on Eat Club which makes it all the more reason to pop by.
After the euphoria from the set up and surroundings of this place settles down, the overall experience is actually quite disappointing.
Yes, the juke box is a novelty and yes, the wait staff whizzing around on roller skates is not something you see everyday. But the food was a huge let down.
The chilli burger looked plain and tasted mediocre. The patty was slightly over cooked and the sauce was bland. It was quite a lot to pay to eat ‘boring’.
The chilli fries were acceptable but the grilled cheese and ham sandwich was once again, too simple and uninteresting.
The poor wait staff had to do a dance every 30 minutes, and some of them had looks of torture on their faces…..so unfortunately with Soda Rock Diner, this will be my first and final visit.
Love this place! It is such a fun and great environment! The wait staff are very attentive, the duke boxes add such a cute touch and the food is great too. I had the cheeseburger and cherry/choc shake! Would definitely come here again!
