I really have to say this restaurant doesn’t know who should they serve first. Me n my wife came in 30mins before our next table. They got their food within 20mins. While I have to wait for 1hr for my salt n pepprr tofu. My noodle came out at around 75 mins and it was also a wrong order! I order chicken fry noodle with oyster sauce. They have gave me black pepper beef fry noodle. Later on the waitress blame it on the system saying they dont have chicken fry noodle with oyster sauce. Have to customise the order.

Really? I already told you what i want. And you telling me have to customise? How would i know? After 80 mins we finally have our meal on the table.

It wasnt as tasty as other said.
I know other places that do better noodle than this place.

Note: there was only 5 tables around us. No big group either. They finished at least 8 ubereats order before serving us!

    Definitely won’t come back anymore.

Some items from Tao are good, some are not so good. The photos of food in the menu should be a warning sign – and the items certainly don’t have the same level of presentation as they do in the pictures.

The worst offenders are the peking duck skin pancakes, which arrived with broken pancakes, very small random pieces of duck, and containing barely any skin. Xao long bao are passable, but again broken dumpling skins defeat the idea of a soup dumpling if the soup isn’t still in the dumpling. The more robust dumplings do not suffer from this issue, and in that respect represent good value for money.

Good dumplings for South Yarra given the limited options there, but compared with many other parts of Melbourne Tao Dumplings is not particularly impressive.

Today I had lunch at Tao, I was in abit of a rush so I looked at there lunch specials which was very good value, for under $15 I got a main dish of chicken satay with steamed rice which was very tasted and very clean. I also ordered the short wonton soup which was also very good..
Great value for money and quality food

Been here a few times now, the best pan fried chicken and prawns dumplings u will find in melbourne! Love the crisp and that the skin if not too thick unlike many other joints we have been to. Their yangzhou fried rice is really flavorsome too and gets addictive. Staff are friendly and smiley. Loved the decor and variety of music played as well. Once of my favorites and would definitely go more often if it was closer to my place. Hard to find a good dumpling place these days, hope this one is here to stay.

Got the pan fried dumplings and Peking duck pancakes from ubereats. The dumplings were a bit oily but filling was ok, there weren’t much of the crispy bottom as shown on the menu though, the skin was very soft. The duck pancakes were ok, there were two pieces of duck and a piece of cucumber inside. I was expecting it to have the hoi sin sauce and spring onions like the traditional ones but this was very minimal.

I often pass this venue on the way to more salubrious places. Tonight alone and with many restaurants closed on Monday I ventured in. Very surprising. Picture menu was good, food matched, service attentive and caring. Pricing – very cheap, like a main dish, steamed rice, two decent Shiraz and complimentary pre dinner nibbles. $34!
Air con worked and seating comfortable albeit rather dark. All good and probably deserves a 3.5, but the option is not available.
