Groove Train South Yarra is located in the iconic Jam Factory, and opens directly onto Chapel Street. Having opened in July 2011, it is a sleek and more sophisticated younger sibling of the original Groove Train in Bridge Road, Richmond. The Groove Train signature colours of orange and chocolate brown are evident in the soft furnishings, yet the look is softened with pillars created from compressed wood and amazing light fittings that utilise the hessian bags used to transport green coffee beans. The floor is a combination of wood and polished concrete creating another layer of design interest and some of the walls still retain the original bluestone foundations. A very eclectic mix that manages to combine the warmth and style synonymous with Groove Train decor while effortlessly reflecting sophisticated South Yarra style. Banquets in orange and chocolate surround the walls of the ground floor restaurant, couches are situated in front of old-school video games, and there is plenty of traditional cafe seating, both inside and out, catering to everyones dining needs whether its a coffee, a three course meal, a drink after work or just an afternoon snack whilst shopping. A black La Marzocco coffee machine located front and centre, and Veneziano coffee beans show that this place is also serious about coffee. The Groove Trains opening hours cover every meal period from breakfast through to late night bar snacks. And, as befits any Groove Train menu, the huge range of options ensures there is definitely something for everyone. From salads to burgers, from risotto to grilled salmon, Groove Train South Yarra is a great addition to the Chapel Street scene, providing customers with a friendly, warm meeting place no matter what the occasion. Groove Train South Yarra also provides something else; upstairs, within a glass-enclosed mezzanine level, is a unique function space that overlooks the restaurant downstairs and Chapel Street itself. The fit out here mirrors the design ethos below but includes a glamorous bar that runs the full length of the back wall, leaving ample room for a range of different configurations depending on the type of event. The space is perfect for between 80 to 100 people and can be used for a wide range of functions, from 21st birthday parties to sit down dinners and everything in between.
