We popped into the Osbourne for Sunday lunch and were very underwhelmed. Food was ok, service was ok, décor is lovely and lots of food options. Plenty potential but our overall experience was a bit bleh.
The Osborne has been seriously buzzing since it’s renovations late last year. With a gorgeous new rooftop and updated decor, the Osborne is the place to be. It gets really crowded, especially when the weather is great, so expect to line up.To avoid that hassle we visited for lunch and it was just as lovely during the day. The main bar area is large, and the dining area is so luxe, but yet still comfortable. The service was really good, both in the bar and restaurant, and the food came out really quickly. The menu covers most pub classics, and we enjoyed our pizza and calamari. Both were fresh and tasty, and cooked well. Complimented by some cocktails, it was enjoyable way to spend an afternoon. The Osborne is definitely at the top end of local pubs, with a more sophisticated feel than your average local; and it’s popularity is proof that people like a pub with a touch of class.
Staff are rude and the whole ordeal of even getting into the place on a Saturday night was horrendous. My friend had a guest list for her Birthday.. they offered 3 free entries (there was 10 of us..) and a few drink cards (we saw none of those). I wasn’t worried about gaining free entry or the drink cards- it was the fact that the staff made us feel like we were being a pain. They asked us to line up on the left side of the entry (even though we had mentioned multiple times we had a guest list) we ended up just lining up on the right side and after the bouncers asked accusing questions we had to show proof we had been talking to someone (a manager or something of the sort) on Facebook messenger at the same time, they begrudgingly let us in. The girls at the door, after plenty of eye rolls and blunt tones, let a few of us in for free the rest had to pay $20.. ($20 is a disgusting amount to pay when there isn’t even a special event on, just a regular Saturday night !?!?)I understand that staff have to deal with drunk people on a regular basis and this attitude may be because of that, but that is the industry they work in, and there is no need to be like that.. It was 9pm. We were far from drunk.. and we were paying customers, happy to be out and having a great time. If you don’t like your job get out of that industry?
The Osbourne has a great express lunch deal, you can pick from 5 different specials and all meals are $10 each from 12-3pm, Tuesday – Thursday. I got the chicken and avocado fettuccine pasta and it was delicious. Overall, fantastic rooftop, great location and view, a great place to come when the suns out.
