Beautiful pictures, glowing reviews, a diverse menu…What more motivation does one need to pay this place a visit?
The answer: nothing. And that was why I ended up with the girls here that day over a random catch up.
D arrived first and it was bustling, but she secured a table for us in no time and later commented on how pleasant the guy at the door was. I arrived next and straight away I ordered a cold brew. What a brilliant coffee it was and D who had a mocha seconded that after sipping on hers!
Once the group was complete, we placed our orders with our polite but rather awkward waitress. My Braised Beef Cheek and Ds Pan Seared Salmon were the first to hit the table, followed shortly by Ss Ricotta Pancakes and As The Breakfast.
If this was a beauty pageant, my dish would easily take the crown, the runner up would be The Breakfast, and the other two would be sent packing their bags. The pancakes looked like a shadow of all the beautiful pictures Ive seen. Where were the edible flowers and generous syrup that graced the plates of many others? The salmon dish regrettably looked like a poorly constructed Lego set.
Pageant aside, my beef cheeks were nice and tender and the fritters were deliciously incorporated with halloumi. The Breakfast was basically the run-of-the-mill Aussie big brekky, so no dramas there.
The pancakes themselves were light and fluffy and the compote was lovely, but there just wasnt enough syrup to last till the final piece and bring it back to home base. As for the salmon dish, the cauliflower pure, potato rosti and perfectly poached egg were the only enjoyable components of it.
Apart from our inanimate waitress, they have a great floor crew and vibe going here, where everyone is energetic and bubbly and the place is nicely decked out.
I really wanted to like this place, but the food and its presentation has left me in two minds. Kudos to their excellent coffee though!
I had been years ago and found the coffee too bitter thus avoided going back but I am glad to have tried again. The coffee is much smoother. The staff were very accommodating and it was easy to get a table midweek. The mushrooms with poarch eggs were cooked well.
A picture is worth a thousand drools and when I saw a photo of the ricotta pancakes I knew I had to try them. And I drooled in real life because they are yum, yum, yum. The pancakes were a little bit denser than I anticipated but the rhubarb and strawberry compote and the vanilla mascarpone made the overall dish delish. The staff are lovely too – shout out to the young English girl with short blonde pigtails who was so nice and sunshiny.
Heard about two birds forever and finally get to visit it. Got there super late so wanted a lunch dish. Ordered the pork belly burger and it was nice. Very punchy salad and good flavour. The serving size was a bit small and price a bit high and they don’t have chips.. (First cafe I have been that doesn’t have chips..) Service was really friendly!
Overall: Meh. It was good, but not great.
Food: Pan Fried Salmon was nice, but disappointing serving size and didn’t look like other review photos. Big Breakfast was fine, safe, nothing extraordinary.
Drink: Hot chocolate was nice.
Another one of South Yarras many cafes and a good one too! Food was yummy and coffee was great too. Only minor thing to fault was the long wait for the food, but will definitely be back here and potentially find a reason to give the 5th ! Thanks heaps guys
Tried this place sometime ago with few girlfriends for breakfast. They serves nice coffee and good list of breakfast options. We ordered few dishes both savoury and sweet to share. Foods are good but not extraordinary. Haven’t come back since.
