Come here with my friends to get some dinner..

ordered steak frites and cheesecake for myself. The steak cooks perfectly medium rare. The sauce was perfect and the chips was crispy and not dry. The meat was tender and the green vegies was fresh. The cheese cake was good and have perfect harmony in my mouth.

What i dont like about this restaurant is that it takes such a long time waiting for the food to come out. Entree for (40minutes), main (45-50minutes) and dessert for almost 30 minutes.

However the staffs was attentive. Even though they make small mistakes but Im okay with it.. the place and the ambience was nice, fun & classic.. such a nice hangout place to go with your friends and family..

Thanks for the experience.. such a nice fun-day dining with friends

Bistro Guillaume is one of the places we used to frequent back when they had good specials for their pre-theatre dining (ordering before around 6pm). The standard of food has always been consistent, and we really like their mussels marinere. I always order their steak fritesas a main, medium rare. Steak is cooked to my liking, the butter on top pairs well with the steak, the fries are well cooked and the watercress salad is also pretty good. The mussels are plump and the sauce tastes great. There may have been some mussels with the beard not completely removed, but from memory that is not common (it is disappointing how most places can never cleanly remove the beards from the mussels). For dessert, the profiteroles are quite decadent and filling. The filling of the profiteroles is ice cream rather than cream, and they pour hot chocolate sauce over them at the table.

Unfortunately, more recently their pre-theatre dining specials are from a much more limited menu. It used to be 2 courses for $55 or 3 courses for $65, and you can select almost any dish from the entire menu, but they now offer very limited choices. This makes the food slightly expensive considering this is more of a bistro rather than strictly fine dining sort of place. Staff are polite but I wouldn’t classify them as warm; some do give off an arrogant vibe, though that may be part of the French demeanor. I have personally seen the owner Guillaume treat guests very well, even giving them directions outside the restaurant though.

Overall, this is a place that serves consistent and good French bistro food, but as with most places at Crown, it’s a little expensive.

I was soo looking forward to this Christmas dinner tonight for my 1000th review.

When my family and I arrived there was no welcome, and the waitress and other waitstaff were literally running around the restaurant. We had not long sat down when the waitress approached us asking us if we were ready to order. After that however it was near impossible to get her attention.

I dont know why as the restaurant was, at the time only 3/4 full. Service in my book is extremely important and tonight the service was absolutely woeful. And the most unfortunate part was that I had recommended this restaurant for our Christmas dinner!!

Onto the food, everyone on my table agreed that the food was average at best. My entree of a souffl was amazing, absolutely delicious!! I was really excited.

I tried a coffin bay oyster and it tasted watery and lacked flavour. It didnt appear to be fresh.

As for my main course, my main of duck confit simply didnt arrive. I did try to get the attention of the waitstaff and short of standing up and shouting attention no one looked in my direction.

Eventually the matre de did notice me and I explained that my main hadnt arrived. Shortly after that he came back to ask me what Id ordered.

By the time my main arrived most people had finished their mains. That aside, the duck was ok, but the previous night I had some spectacular food at another restaurant and this place did not offer the same quality.

I did try some Parisian gnocchi which was excellent at first but then it was gluggy when it was cold. The rest of the mains were ok but no one was really impressed.

We skipped dessert after that and went elsewhere.

Overall this was a really disappointing night and as I say, the service was the WORST that Ive ever experienced at a restaurant of this calibre. And finally, its not a good look to see the matre de eating olives and spitting the seeds out in full view customers.

Waited a good 5 mins at the door with quite a few staff walking past us but not taking us in, I thought it was gonna be rather unpleasant. I was WRONG! After the girl at the door finished with what she was doing everything just became absolutely perfect.

We sat outside and it was a beautiful night. Ordered cocktails to start with. The passionfruit one and the cucumber one were amazing! I could have them again and again. Food wise we ordered the special tartare special and oysters for entree. I had the swordfish for main and my friend had the barramundi special. We also shared a souffl. OMG the food was absolutely stunning like every single dish. And they had the fries just the way I like it!

Service was soooooo friendly and attentive. Really great experience!

This was definitely a much fancier dinner experience than what Im used to, but I thoroughly enjoyed it! The atmosphere in the upstairs dining area was lovely and intimate, with the servers being constantly available and very friendly. The chicken I ordered was cooked perfectly and the flavours were great, making my first experience eating French cuisine a success! Our dessert was also very great and overall, I look forward to eating here again in the future. A must try fancy dinner!

Que magnifique! Definitely one of the best French restaurants I have been to. Not cheap but the price can be justified.

The food was fine dining and top notch. Good quality ingredients, multiple processes per dish and presentation impeccable. I could not fault anything (apart from the fact that I would have liked a second helping!)

The service is equally top notch. The staff must be French born as they have accents and speak French between themselves. This made the experience priceless.

The ambiance consists of fresh, clean and modern decor right on the banks of the Yarra. You can dine al fresco and appreciate city views. Definitely worth it.

Bistro Guillaume popped up as one of the top restaurants in Southbank, so we went there with high hopes. The place was very dimly lit, creating a romantic atmosphere, however it was too dim for my liking to a point of being eerie. Although it was fine dining, food was hard to see, so photos are dark. Service was good and the staffs were attentive and provided today’s special and explained each dish in detail.

We ordered the escargot and the roast bone marrow as entree, it was a bit much and we found the taste to be on the salty side, you will need a lot of water to accompany those dishes. For the mains we got the signature steak and frites, as well as the short rib. The sauce was once again overwhelmingly salty, and the steak was good but did not stand out for us. We finished the night with creme brulee, and that was also great but nothing special.

Overall an expensive French restaurant with little above average dishes. I would go back to try the chicken or duck to make final judgment, as they were mentioned in other reviews and seen in lots of photos. But it is a 3 for now.

    Food: 3
    Service: 4
    Ambiance: 3
    Price: 3
