I think the average rating of this restaurant speaks for itself. There are a lot of fine-dining, Michelin star restaurants out there, but when it comes to thinking of a meal as not merely just food, but an incredible experience, few chefs come to mind besides Heston Blumenthal.

The ambience was very comfortable and classy. Tables were spread out nicely and furniture choices were high-end and impeccable. The staff make up so much of the experience. Our waiter (do they even call them that here?) was warm, friendly, yet professional, and we enjoyed lots of banter all night long. He told us of his working experience at top restaurants all around the world, and explained the significance of why they chose different ornamental pieces around the restaurant. He also showed us around the kitchen (from the outside, through the glass windows where you can see everything) and explained the tricks they used to make certain dishes work. I almost remember that aspect of our evening more than the food itself.

The food is obviously impeccable. Those familiar with Heston’s creations will know that it can be a bit weird and wacky, and staff do warn you beforehand if a dish is meant to invoke an unexpected reaction. You may also be familiar with the Fat Duck in Bray, UK, where his renown originated. Dinner by Heston Blumenthal is decidedly less ‘out there’ of an experience compared to the Fat Duck, where they serve long (10+ courses) degustation menus that last for hours and hours. This establishment is something more familiar, but still with some of the characteristic, quirky and signature dishes that made him famous. To be honest, that’s not necessarily a bad thing, because the prices here are also a lot more reasonable than a meal at the Fat Duck.

We loved the meat fruit (there’s enough there to fill a good portion of your belly if you refill on the bread) and the tipsy (pineapple) cake in particular. The steak with triple cooked chips and mushroom ketchup was honestly not as good as I had imagined; it was good, that’s for sure, but I expected the chips to have insane crunch, and the steak to blow me away. Perhaps I over-hyped myself there. The bread ice-cream dessert had a strange taste (as we were warned, but we wanted to try it anyway), and it was a nice experience but I probably wouldn’t order it again.

If you were planning to spend this much on a meal ($40 for entrees, $60+ for mains, $20 for desserts), I would go nowhere else other than to Dinner by Heston.

Yes…this place is as good as Id heard! And surprisingly not as expensive as I thought!! $400 all up with 3 courses each, a cocktail and a beer and a bottle of Shiraz! Price wise on a par with other fine dining institutions around town! (For some reason I presumed it to be hideously expensive). Great views, atmosphere, staff engaging…actually the best customer service! Highlights were the meat fruit entree and the egg dessert

Very scrumptious dinner at Dinner by Heston.. We tried a number of dishes and shared them so that we could try a bit of everything and the flavours were delightful.. Presentation was also very delicate.. We had the meat fruit, prawn capacio, Wagyu steak, duck, eggs panacotta and tipsy cake.
All the dishes had a twist to it and was a bit of a surprise..
The most intriguing was the meat fruit, which was essentially a chicken pate, wrapped in orange gel.. Steak was also very delicious and was served with triple cooked chips.. Overall food was tasty and flavours were very intense..
We were also given a small treat at the end of the dinner which was a chocolate mousse with biscuits..
The restaurant was tricky to find and the entrance was made to feel mysterious, as you had to walk through a dark corridor to get to the entrance..
Service was excellent and the portions were not too small.. Definitely a wonderful dining experience..
