Came for a nice easy lunch out with my partner. Being truffle fans, we both absolutely adored the Tartufata (truffle pizza) & Pappardelle ai Funghi Misti (Truffle cream pasta), packed with delicious mushroom flavours but still extremely balanced and light on the palate. It was our second time here and both times despite the food being fantastic, the service was rather disappointing for a restaurant in Crown.
Came here for a light lunch with family and ordered an eggplant pizza, crab pasta and a rocket salad. I thought the rocket salad was a waste of money (as with salads at most places really – especially when they just throw some raw leaves together with some dressing), but my cousin wanted it so yea..
The eggplant pizza was not bad, but as you’d expect from Italian style pizza, the toppings are pretty sparse. The pizza base was a good balance of firm and soft, and toppings tasted pretty nice as well. But I don’t think it was exceptional, certainly not enough for the title of best pizza, especially after you factor in the premium in prices because this is located at Crown. The pasta was also decent – the crab wasn’t all that much but you could taste the chunks of crab that were there. I had to ration it along with the pasta so I wouldn’t be left with only pasta.
The restaurant is pretty big with plenty of tables. The tables are spaced reasonably far apart so it was quite comfortable.
If someone insisted on treating me to a meal here, I’d probably have an enjoyable meal. But I would probably recommend somewhere else for us to go if I could, and I doubt I’d come here to pay for a meal on my own given the competitive Italian scene here in Melbourne.
Gradi served a variety of pizza and drinks. We ordered the Rustica pizza and kingfish carpaccio. The kingfish carpaccio was fresh and tender. The pizza had a nice balance of flavours; salty, spicy, aromatic. The base was the right thickness but it was too fluffy for my liking. The pizza was served on a plate as well making the base soggy. Overall it was a nice dining experience with their friendly service and great view of the Yarra River, but Gradi wasnt my favourite pizza place.
