A really nice Japanese fusion with a great view on the side of Yarra river. Been here a few times and good are always really good. The definitely must-try dish would be the miso grilled white tooth fillet. If you like sweet drinks, try the greentea umeshu or kokuto umeshu (black sugar).

Went here for happy hour on Sunday. Great deals! $10 cocktails between 3 and 5pm and they are beautifully creative with Japanese flavours. The location is superb.

Im surprised how thin and small the sashimi are in Southbank one. The volume per piece is about 1/4 of the ones in their flinders one. I post two photos from these two Sake restaurants. The left one is from Southbank 21tiny pieces $55 , the right one is from flinders Lane 8 pieces $26 which has more volumes and weights. Should always avoid restaurants in Southbank

While Im not a big fan of Japanese, I enjoyed our meal here. The location is lovely – right on the river front – and the staff were helpful in advising what was in each dish and how many dishes would be suitable for the two of us. I should mention the cocktails too – mine was awesome.

The food here is ok – not terrible, not amazing (credit for the thin dough on the gyozas though!) – but the service really influenced our experience. We walked in for dinner on Thursday and were met by three staff whose warmness rivalled Antarcticas. The stone-cold display made us feel like we were intruding. It didnt improve. Pretentious disdain is how Id sum it up. I prefer professional friendliness. Especially if Im going to pay $25 for five pieces of aforementioned gyoza.

Wasn’t blown away by the food and value here. Beautiful ambiance and attentive service, Japanese dishes that were presented very nicely – the nori cracker, sashimi and oysters were delicious, other dishes like the popcorn prawns were less impressive. I would sayambiance and service deserves a 4/5 but food falls short at 3/5 – still a great place to bring someone to impress.

Beautifully decorated environment. Loved the table lamps that were placed on every dining table. It created a really romantic scene.

Everything was very delicious and well presented but the only disappointment were the sushi rolls that we had ordered.
After finishing our entrees and mains and chasing them up for n extra 20-30 minutes, they had finally served us our sushi roll. The rolls werent great. The rice wrapped around the sushi were warm and mushy. I wouldnt recommend their sushi.

Favourite: Ten minutes by tractor (Pinot Noir) was smooth and light. Thank you for the recommendation! It was perfect pairing for the fragrant duck breast.
The fragrant duck breast was my favourite dish because it went beautifully with the shimeji mushroom. Just talking about it is making my mouth water. Highly recommend this dish!

Would I recommend Sak to family and friends? Yes! Most dishes were delicious!
Would I come back to Sak? Yes, for the fragrant duck breast dish- thats for sure!
