I was early to meet by fellow diner on Southbank before we went to see the latest production by Bangarra nearby (get there it’s amazing!). Absolutely starving I called in for a snack at my go to sushi in the area Shoji. I always find their offerings fresh and in fact they will often roll me my request if it’s not sitting in the counter and always slice the sashimi to order. I can’t go past the delicious black (or purple) rice sushi for its vibrant shade and health benefits. So yeah my snack ended up being two sushi rolls and a box of sashimi. Pretty sure that’s a meal. And what a delectable one it was
Shoji is the closest sushi place to work and this is the reason why I’ve given it a few chances. I have been left disappointed with the quality and freshness of the sushi on all occasions. The rolls are only half filled with fillings (they fave the filled side to the front when displaying and the back half is empty which you see once you have handed over your money and opened your package to eat). The last time I ordered from Shoji the avocado was rotten tasting.
I will now just walk the extra distance into the cbd for decent sushi if the craving hits.
Located in the bustling southgate food court, Shoji might draw you in thanks to their colourful sushi, as happened to me today! This is one of the few places to serve black rice (looks purple!) sushi as well as curcumin rice sushi (yellowish green) giving great visual appeal. The sushi is delicious – beautiful fresh salmon and flavoursome chili prawn. As well as sushi, there are bento boxes and bim bap bowls, and little sides of seaweed salad, squid etc. Staff are efficient and helpful within constraints of the food court environment.
This place is one of the only places around Southbank that sells black rice sushi rolls.
The have nice sushi rolls as well as some other Japanese dishes like katsu’s, ramen and the famous pancakes.
This is one of my go to sushi spots for a quick healthy lunch option. Staff are always very friendly and smiley. Situated in a food court so there is always seating.
