My partner booked this place for my birthday. I was quite surprised and pretty impressed when we arrived. Although we were early we were shown straight away to our table.
We were offered to have our coats put away but I kept mine on because I was cold where we were seated (near the door to the oyster bar). I noticed some people had their coats on, too. My partner was given a card for his coat to pick up later.
Going back to the ambience, it felt like a very special occasion place and my partner wanted to treat me for my birthday.
A very helpful staff gave us the food and drinks menu. It took me a while to pick my wine since I am not a big wine drinker plus all the wines in the menu were very unfamiliar. The wait staff was helpful in trying to assist us on what to order and we ordered Tastes of the Ocean from the Cold and Raw as starter and decided to get Roasted John Dory for my partner and the Roasted Flathead for me plus chips as side.
Tastes of the Ocean came and it was a long plate of different seafood. That was pretty good. Then came the mains. Im not sure what to say to that, it looked like something from Masterchef kitchen that the judges didnt like. Big plate, minute food. My Roasted flathead was literally that. Roasted flathead tail with citrus jus, lime, chili and coriander. Nothing else. Nothing to clean the palate, nothing to balance and tie the dish together. The Lime segments on top of the flathead was out of place. Would it hurt to add salad or some pure or vegetable as part of the dish so you experience the dish as how it should be? Extremely disappointed is an understatement. Im sure my partner was, too but didnt show it considering it was a special occasion. $200.00 (plus Corona, my Ros, the Italian bottled water) later, we were still both hungry. I felt, we paid for the location but it wasnt worth it. I dont see how one can justify the cost of the food we ordered and it wasnt even worth mentioning, nothing special. I could have cooked that myself. Not going back. Not recommending. A massive disappointment.

4/5 nice food, good service but just missing wow factor that makes me desperate to rush back. For entree we selected the garlic prawns, wood fired grilled octopus and kingfish ceviche. The garlic prawns I felt needed more seasoning as it was light on flavour. The grilled octopus while it was beautifully cooked, I thought again it needed some more seasoning. The kingfish ceviche I thought was the better one out of the three, it had a nice well balanced citrus flavour. For main I had the moreton bay bug pasta and my partner had the special whole fish which was a baby snapper with garlic and oregano dressing. The Morton bay bugs were perfectly cooked, still soft and delicate and there was a generous serving which was nice. I thought a little kick of fresh chilli would have completed the dish. The baby snapper was also well cooked and we did enjoy the garlic and oregano dressing. The summer tomato salad was a good refreshing side to go with the fish but nothing amazing to brag about. For me the best dish was dessert. I had the special sorbets which were berry, mango and white nectarine. They were fresh and sweet and I loved the little waffle-like crisps. This was the best sorbet Ive had in years! My partner had the snickers bar which had a lovely crispy yet soft texture. Dessert was the key highlight.

  • Crabapples For Lunch

Came here for a special degustation menu made by Donovan Cooke. It was a 6-course meal that was delectable and included a lot of my favourites like scallops, pork belly and duck.

Proteins were all well cooked and finely presented. The duck was pink, pork belly was crispy, and scallops seared well. The salmon was very delicately cooked, probably sous vided, and so while I could appreciate the attention to detail, I found the texture of it a bit unusual. I’m a big fan of sashimi, as well as cooked salmon, so it was just this intermediate texture that perhaps made my mind a little confused. Portions were small, and by the end it was reasonably filling, but I probably would have preferred to be a little more full.

The ambience was quite quiet and pleasant, and service was good. It was also nice to see Donovan Cooke himself working the kitchen on the night. Overall I’d say the experience was quite pleasant and perhaps the main reason why I don’t return here as often as I might (other than for monetary reasons) is that I’m more of a steak person when it comes to fine dining.

Took dad here for Fathers Day and was treated to a delicious lunch by The Atlantic. As the name suggests, this place is great for seafood lovers and with a nice selection to choose from. The barramundi in particular was quite nice! A great wine selection too which topped off a great lunch experience!

Nice restaurant, brilliant customer service, high quality wagyu beef, very fresh seafood good choice of wine and amazing dessert!!!!!! Must go!

Had oysters and drinks at the oyster bar and then dinner in the main dining room. The oyster bar is a smaller more casual area of the restaurant which has $2 oysters mon-thurs but otherwise has a limited menu. First plate of oysters was full of sand and shell, not a great place to impress your guests. The oyster bar itself probably deserves 2.5 stars since it seems they’ve put less care into the service and food.

The main dining room is much nicer in ambience and service. We enjoyed the meal and wine, the fish and seafood was fresh, and the T-bone was surprisingly delicious (possibly the star dish). My advice is to try the oyster bar with friens, but impress with a dinner at the main dining room.

Had fish and chips and that was really really good. One of the best fish and chips I ever had, fish crispy outside and soft inside, yummy. Service was also excellent on a weekday lunch time
