If you still remember the old owner of Cafe de Taite in Hawthorn and miss his cooking, you can now find him here at Wonder Sushi. However, there’s no HK cafe style food here, and instead his focus now is on simple and affordable Japanese takeaway food. Don’t be fooled by the looks of this place though, the menu features a very decent selection of dishes, and the quality and flavour of the food are both praiseworthy.
Take for example, the pork katsu udon and the gyutan don. The pork katus was well-seasoned and lightly crumbed, and didn’t fall apart at all, while the broth was hearty and packed full of flavours. The ox tongue was thinly sliced, with a good bite and beautiful flavours. While there’s nothing here that will blow your socks off, the food are reasonably priced and most importantly, delicious and filling. Nothing fancy here, just honest to goodness food.
