Service was alright, food came out after a while, but the food was quite delicious. Its just a tad bit more expensive than other restaurants in Springvale. They are quite generous with the meat, but not with the spring rolls.

We’re hugely spoilt for choice when it comes to Vietnamese food in Springvale and as a result, already have favourites when it comes to restaurants (especially ones specialising in certain dishes). But we’re alsways open to suggestions and have found the bun bo hue here to be just as good as the ones at Co Do and Nam Giao!

The restaurant was nearly full before 12noon on a Sunday. It has a smaller menu which reduce the amount of time that you need to make a decision. We ordered the Spicy beef noodle and the crab noodle soup. I cant tell whether they are authentic but they are both amazing. Its a good change from the usual pho.

    3.5 to be precise

There were mixed sentiments over our lunch today at Bn Ngon. I liked my dish whilst my partner didnt, and vice versa.

I had the Bn Riu Cua whilst he settled for the Vietnamese Beef Stew after tossing between that and Bn B Hu.

My tomatoey broth was light and well rounded with hints of tartiness and sweetness. The flavours of the crab mince reminded me a little of Malaysian Otak-otak. I liked the side serve of fermented shrimp paste which added a nice savoury note, although one should be careful to not be too liberal with it as the flavours are indeed strong. Overall, I really enjoyed my dish, but my partner didnt, only because it was a tad too fishy for his liking.

He preferred his beef stew which came with some nice crusty Vietnamese baguettes on the side. The beef was really tender and the stew was sweet and delicate. With a squeeze of lemon and a sprinkling of sliced fresh chillies, he reckoned it was perfect! However, I didnt enjoy it as much as he did as I found the five spice and star anise in it too overpowering.

The only thing we both could agree on today were the spring rolls, which regrettably werent the best and the iced coffee was way too sweet.

I am still keen on coming back to try their Bn B Hu and even more so the Bn Mm, but being the fussy fish eater he is, Ill most likely be alone on the Bn Mm journey. Oh well…
