Seriously disappointed with both quality of food and service on the weekend. Dropped in for a quick bite with my wife. Asked for a dish that the table nearby was having, a salted fish fried rice, and was served some kind of fried chicken on tomato rice combination.
I pointed out to the waitress that served the dish (not the same waitress that took the order) that that wasn’t the dish I’d ordered. However, I decided to keep it anyway as I was in a rush. One bite, the dish was bitter from being burnt!
We sent the dish back, and the second waitress apologised and clarified what dish I actually wanted. She came back a short time later and said that they were frying up the dish, but had run out of the salted fish. Would that be ok? I said go ahead.
Then, the old lady from the kitchen brought back the exact same dish that I’d just sent back! And she stated categorically that the dish would not be remade because I’d ordered it. Not one word of apology for it being burnt!! Unbelievable!!
We ended up leaving the restaurant and refusing to pay for the rubbish served. It’s 20 minutes ago, and I’m still … as I write this. It isn’t the second waitress’s fault, and I could see her plainly embarrassed by this treatment of customers.
There are better eating options in Springvale. My wife and I won’t be returning to this restaurant. If it were possible to leave a score of zero, I would.
Super quiet for a Friday night this restaurant is nestled in a residential area away from Springvale central. Serves a variety of Chinese/Vietnamese dishes, I go for one of the safest options, fried egg noodles with combination. Unfortunately for me there was a new waitress and her English wasn’t so good so I ended up with rice noodles instead. As much as I was craving crispy noodles the dish I got still hit the spot, nice and saucey with fat rice noodles. The noodles did clump up a bit but was still good. This place is pretty cheap comparatively and does yumcha on weekends.
Massive difference in quality here on weekdays compared to weekends. On weekends, this place is fantastic value for money, cheaper than anywhere in Springvale and just as good. I live nearby so I’m a regular here. The service is absolutely terrible on weekdays (different staff, reminds me of the landlord lady from Kung Fu Hustle), and the cooking is even worse from the red rice (tastes like it has been left outside in the sun for dogs to eat, but the dogs wouldn’t eat it so they scooped it back up and served it to customers) to the spicy pork ribs (different cook uses a completely different type of pork on weekdays; tastes like dehydrated anus, but the one on weekends is top notch — see photo below). Would give this place 1 star for weekdays and 4.5 stars for weekends.
The food is a bit inconsistent here with portions and the service is a little rude and stand off-ish at times. Seasoning is a bit inconsistent too – soups will be super salty and then rice dishes will be very bland.

Friendly staff, but for a $12 satay beef, don’t expect any thing less than 90% vegetables. I complained and she said next time you order the $15 beef. It was hopeless compared@ to the best satay I’ve ever had 3 doors away in that bigger restaurant (I can’t remember the name of it). I would never return here with so many good places to eat around here. You will see that I pushed all the beef to one end of the plate and I haven’t eaten any of it yet.
Great home style Vietnamese food. The prices are very decent too. I have been coming to Dao Vien 2 since I was a kid, so I have sampled many of the items on the menu. The staff have always been friendly and welcoming, and the taste of the food has been consistent throughout the years.
My personal pick would be the Combination Fried Rice Noodles (H tiu xo thp cm) and the Spicy Salt and Pepper Pork with Rice (Cm sn rang mui).
Great place to go if you can’t be bothered finding a parking spot in Springvale and want fresh and tasty Vietnamese food.
Always my go to for my Vietnamese fix! My pics are pho, combination bun Hoi, prawn spring rolls, spicy pork! Let’s just say I have never left this place without a smile on my face… And a food coma lol
