Unfortunately a pretty underwhelming and disappointing experience at Papa Joe’s. Off the back of some pretty high reviews this place seemed to be a must try which was highly recommended by locals singing the praises. Venturing to try some take away pizza I was met with a pretty bland and lackluster basic flavour. Both the Meat-Lovers and the Aussie pizzas were heavy on dull ham, and not too much else. Sauce was inadequate. Yes, the base and the crust were not soggy which was certainly an advantage, however as mentioned, the flavours were just not there which is what I’m turning up for! I won’t be returning and continue to long for a bang on local pizza option, which I am yet to find (the struggle is real).
So getting expectations into check – this is one of those local, independent pizza stores that do a deep-ish crust pizza.
Even though it was a busy night, I phoned ahead and ordered a large 1/2 supreme and 1/2 napoletanta. $9, $1 extra for half half. It was ready in 10 mins. I took it away and ate it within 5 minutes.
The base was still crisp, with a bit of that doughy chew, which is great. Toppings were loaded, especially on the supreme side.
In the end, a quick, enjoyable and delicious experience for me, because I was after exactly that type of pizza.
