Phnom Penh Thmei has been around for a few years now (thmei means new), but I’m glad there are more Cambodian restaurants around.
You’ll find a combination of Thai, Vietnamese and Chinese food as well, but they do have some authentic Cambodian dishes.
People often ask what is the flavour of Cambodian food, and I would describe it as leaning towards using preserved/pickled ingredients, salty and sour.
The restaurant features a beef hotpot which might seem pricey but you get a lot. The soup is also deep, fragrant and slightly pungent.
*Khmer vermicelli soup – soup noodles made of pork bones, dried seafood and white radish. Very comfortating and delicious. It’s one of the classic noodle dishes of Cambodia.
*Khmer lemongrass soup – traditionally served with beef and a load of morning glory. The soup is beefy, slightly sour and herby from the lemongrass.
Another cambodian food place to savour. Phnom Penh Noodle soup has rich and sweet undertone flavor. Ingredients are fresh. Staff are friendly and place is clean. Overall is good.
