Been waiting for a Napoli pizza joint in St Albans! I ordered the 3021 and Leaning Tower from the wood fired selection for pick up. Pizzas were proper Napoli style – crispy, chewy base with the right amount of char. Both were delicious, however I was let down by the leaning tower – pesto flavour seemed to be lacking and the pine nuts were missing. Regardless, the service was prompt and friendly. Will be a returning customer.

I was a bit cynical that St Albans Woodfired Pizza would be decent as I have become a bit jaded due to the large number of average quality pizza shops that seem to be everywhere. I wanted to give St Albans Woodfired Pizza a go at least once though, so I ordered a take away wood-fired Margherita, which was ready quite quickly. While waiting, I noticed that the wood oven didn’t exactly have a blazing inferno happening and I was worried that the temperature would not be hot enough to create the desired blistered, crunchy base. Ideally these ovens should be very hot, allowing you to cook a pizza in less than two minutes.
The pizza was surprisingly good though, with a bubbled, slightly crunchy base even though the pizza could have been cooked a little while longer to make it even crisper. The tomato sauce was above average flavour-wise (no harsh acidity) and there were enough Mozarella blobs (not shredded) to strike a balance rather than being over done. The Margherita did tend to be very moist towards the middle, but this is to be expected with a thin base.
I couldn’t find any basil on the Margherita, even though it was listed as an ingredient on the menu. After thinking about it, I thought that perhaps they just used a bit of basil when they made the tomato sauce. Or perhaps they forgot. Either way, I couldn’t really taste it. Even a swirl of basil/olive oil puree would have been a big improvement.
The menu has gourmet wood-fired pizzas as well as traditional oven pizzas and if you pay an extra couple of bucks you can have a pizza from the traditional section of the menu cooked in the wood oven, which might appeal to some people.
Will I go back to St Albans Woodfired Pizza? Yes, I will. I am curious how some of the other gourmet wood-fired pizzas would taste, some of them look very enticing. As long as they don’t forget any of the toppings, of course.
I should of just thrown my money in the bin – after waiting over an hour for a delivery that should of taken no more than 25minutes, I was sorely disappointed at what I received. Not even in my hungry state was I able to eat this. Sorry guys, this was a fail.
This is the second time I order from here and am disappointed the first time I ordered a traditional vegetarian and they sent me a gourmet vegetarian this time I ordered the gnocchi Napoletana and they ran out of gnocchi so changed to a spaghetti not nice at all very buttery/oily both the pizzas were burnt and the large vegetarian wasnt cut the margarita had no basil and really thin felt like I ate only the base bad customer service and terrible food dont recommend at all wont be ordering again
Disappointed with tonights takeaway order. 2x large Woodfired Pizzas for $39 and my Margerita had no basil as was on the menu, plus $19.50? The same price as a tandoori chicken or lamb pizza? Come on! To make matters worse it was super thin and soggy in the middle and I was basically left with that Soggy circle in the middle of the box.
Secondly, the other pizza, theyd run out of sausage so we had to change the order or substitute, so we changed to a vegetarian, which they gave us a woodfired base with traditional toppings even after clarifying it came with rocket.
All in all a terrible experience and below par pizza. Dont order here! Its the second time theyve let us down – never again!
Only good for a 12am hunger cry. Apart from that, the pastas are bland and the pizzas have minimal toppings. The steak tastes like frozen beef just defrosted. Nothing about their main meals are appetising.
Standard pizza, was Cooked well an the toppings were pretty good. Had the pepperoni which was ok but not the best, would recommend if nothing else is open
