Banff is a truly one-of-a-kind establishment, combining the look of a bar, atmosphere of a cafe and cheap and tasty Italian goodies; all while keeping it casual. I was seated next to a lady working away at her laptop and a group of friends having beers which I think says it all.
My partner and I came for dinner and ordered 3 dishes: Pesto Chicken, Bocconcini & Red Onion Pizza; Spinach, Feta, Olives & Mushroom Pizza and Paper Bag Pasta, which was pasta served in paper bag material and a basket. Specifically we had the linguini carbonara with bacon, onion and mushrooms to share between the 2 of us. The linguini carbonara infused with the bacon and onion flavours made the whole dish so tasty. While the pasta itself was delicious, the paper material really accentuated the grease that had accumulated and becomes quite noticeable as you approach the bottom. This did not stop me from scoffing the pasta all down though.
The pizzas were of the smaller, thin-crust variety that you often find at pubs and bars. The bases were a little too thin for my liking, resulting in slightly floppy slices that are unable to support their own weight when held from the crust. The flavours and ingredients however, were an absolute delight, I couldve had the entire two by myself on another day. The garlic base although noticeable, does not overpower the rest of the ingredients, and makes the pizza that much more enjoyable!
The place can be cramped or cosy depending on how you look at it but the confined quarters definitely add to the character of Banff. I will be sure to pay a visit during happy hour in the future.
