Very high quality Italian food and drinks! Place is quite expensive but is worth any money! With my husband we visited this place fiew times. My the biggest love there is – dessert – tiramisu with espresso martini!!!!
Best night in Melb for years. My 9th year at Melb GP and the best dinner yet. So glad we squeezed I a request for a booking in friday for the Sunday. Great wine selection, fabulous traditional high endvitalian. Dont come here if you want to scrimp and have a good night – but if you’re happy to spend some hard earned coin on a night you’ll remeber fondly – come here.
The service was great. We’ll be back next year for SURE!
Poor and overpriced. I went to di stasio bar yesterday with a friend promising him good food unfortunately it was a terrible mistake.
The decor is frankly awful…myself and my friend were wondering who dreamed it up. It is totally laughable.
Firstly i correctly surmised the waitress must be near the end of her shift because she didn’t seem all that pleased to see us and neither did her replacement.
I won’t talk about the wine because that is pretty standard….the food however is another story.
We ordered the fried seafood plate and the tuna carpaccio with white bean salad.
For the carpaccio we were served with two tiny pieces of tuna and a tiny portion of bean salad for approx. $17….. total cost of ingredients? ….maybe $3.
The tuna was cold and stringy and the bean salad flavourless.
The fried seafood plate was an absolute joke and I began to wonder if I was dreaming and might wake up soon. Unfortunately I wasn’t and proceeded to eat this tiny and greasy serving offered from the hallowed kitchen of di stassio…..cost again about $17…..cost of ingredients $3.
Here’s an idea Mr di stasio…..why don’t you go and sit at your bar and order a few things…..you obviously haven’t. …and then after you have tried a few things call the head chef out and ask him what he thinks he is doing because it’s obvious that one thing he’s not doing is his job.
Frankly I was dumbfounded, confused, and disappointed and I surely cannot be the only person, and my friend was as well.
I don’t think we were asking for much….a decent portion of high quality italian food that we were absolutely prepared to pay for.
Do you honestly think mr di stasio that people will return for your very poor renderings of classic italian dishes?
I can get better at tiamo on lygon st because the people there obviously care about what they are serving and make sure that everything that goes out on a plate is good.
It seems a very simple logical equation to me.
Favourite place!! Foods fantastic! Very classy and romantic! Staff can be arrogant but I think depends on whose working.
Superb Italian Food. Dinner last night – friendly attentive staff and the best food and great wines
Could not fault it
Sat a table in the Bar area and loved it
We also love the main restaurant for quality italian food
Disingenuous example of Italian food. Firstly, what were they thinking when they built that silly marble bar? Either Mr Di Stasio has an extra long torso, and therefore he sits well at it, or else the ‘architect’ had one too many Italian digestives while designing it. It truly is a ridiculously high bar – completely impractical.
Secondly, they treat unfamiliar clientele with poor service – which is their prerogative – but does not warrant returning to the venue.
The menu is predominately fried food and pasta, which is OK if you like a junky example of Italian food.
The overall design of the place is pretentious, and one cannot understand how it would get recognition as a great architectural feat.
To finish, why on earth would Mr Di Stasio use a commercial ‘supermarket’ coffee like Lavazza?
It’s all about the money.
2 words. Pigeon Pie. So damn good! Second favourite would be the duck. Such good value and beautiful marble bar and equally beautiful waiters 😉
