After a day out at the St Kilda Festival, my partner and I stopped by this seemingly charming little cake shop. Upon entering, we were greeted by anything but charming staff. We payed around $30 for 2 iced chocolates (not so bad), 1 piece of New York style cheesecake (hard as a rock and tasteless) and 1 lemon curd tart (sour glaze and hard, burnt pastry). Unhappy with our cakes, I asked our server how old they were, she simply shrugged us off. We left our cakes and iced chocolates and will not be returning.
Tried the vanilla slice here, and it was pretty decent. The custard was a little thick and gooey, but the pastry was crispy and light. It wasn’t the perfect vanilla slice, but it was alright.
The worst dessert I had in Melbourne. Pavalova was so soft so wet, the strawberry slice is full of cake base and cream, tiramisu made with cake base too, the first time I ever seen!
Absoluely shocking. The chocolate slice is completely off! The almond pyramid is dryerthan Sahara! And they did nothing about the cakes. Good luck.
We were enticed to come in due to the plethora of cakes out in the decor. However the cakes were flavourless with the base sponge overly sugary. It was also overpriced at $8 per slice. Severely disappointed, definitely a tourist trap!
Poor and rude service, charged extra for eating cake there – even though you have to order at the counter and are asked to return the plate inside.
Continuing our St Kilda cake shop degustation we hopped across to Le Bon. We picked up Florentines for an Sunday afternoon tea. They were just okay. Certainly not the best we have had and a little soft (staff member advised us to store them outside of the fridge which we did). Le Bon has quite the range and like the other cake shops down here no pricing up so expect bill shock with you heritage cake.
