The Dorchester is in such a great location across the road from iconic Luna Park! The menu has a lot of different options and suitable for most palates. I was lucky to be invited to the relaunch of The Dorchester a few weeks ago. I loved the outdoor area with the clear view of Luna park! The cocktails were refreshing and the olives and dips accompanied them well. Another highlight were the little corn fritters and the calamari! For mains we had the beef and huge fillet of salmon to share. Both cooked to perfection and so succulent. To finish off the Panna cotta and the crumble were lovely. Thanks for having me along to a great evening!

We were lucky enough to attend the menu premiere for the Dorchester and if werent for my two hour parking limit I probably would have had to be rolled out on a stretcher.

We started the night off with a few cocktails, I had the golden gay time one which was so delicious ( highly recommend) , the starters comprised of bruschetta, calamari, prawns and dips, my favourite was by far the calamari, so tender, crispy and light. For mains we were served a cured salmon which tasted like it was confit, the meat was perfectly cooked, still a little raw on the inside, we also got served steak which was a perfect medium rare

For dessert was a lime panacotta , the wobble factor on this was amazing, I really enjoyed the flavours and it was a fantastic way to end the night

Thank you for having us !

We were lucky to be invited to check out the relaunch at The Dorchester. Located across the road from the famous Luna Park is a comfortable yet stylish restaurant. The amazing mirrors inside and comfortable chairs makes this place the perfect pre theatre dinner spot.

As this was a showcase of their menu, the images may no be the same as a normal meal (everything was made for sharing).

To kick off the night we tried their new cocktails. With the Golden Gaytime being the star of the show!

The highlight of the night were there garlic prawns, dips & crackers and the calamari. As the mains were produced for a large group the quality was not as high as expected. Would love to visit to check out the main dishes.

We heard about the relaunch as ‘The Dorchester’ so my husband and I came for lunch and couldn’t believe how nice the venue was. The decor is really lovely and so were the staff.

We tried the calamari and the open steak sandwich, both were fantastic! The calamari were perfectly cooked, the coating had plenty of seasoning and it was very tender inside. The portion was very generous too. The steak sandwich was served interestingly, with the meat fanned across the bread, sort of DIY style. It was medium-rare, which we loved and the fried egg had a nice, runny yolk.

Overall, we loved our lunch here, they’ve done a really great job with the rebranding and it’s one of our new favourite restaurants in this busy area of St Kilda!

TL:DR – classic grill menu with a wide variety of options, set in a beautifully central location.
I was invited to the launch of The Dorchester, and I have to say, it’s a very good location. Right opposite Luna Park, in front of the trams and the beach, they have a small patio where you can drink the summer nights away while people watching.
Step inside, and it feels very classic or even retro – long white table clothes, large bronze framed mirrors, plush chairs and a dim, intimate atmosphere.

There is a new cocktail menu available and I tried one of their new signatures, the Gaytime. The glass was crusted with actual Gaytime crumbs, I couldn’t help making out with it just to get crumbs off. The bartender did a great job mixing various liqueurs to replicate that familiar caramel, honeycomb and vanilla flavour.

It’s a little difficult to talk about the food because it was a showcase of their menu, so the kitchen wouldn’t normally cook and serve in this fashion for the entire restaurant during a regular service.
I do have some highlights and observations though:

    * Calamari – chunky, meaty and extremely soft calamari in a light crumb, with a really nice zingy lemon pepper seasoning. Excellent dish.
    * Hello Dolly – thin woodfired pizza with garlic, sea salt and rosemary. Very crisp and great with dips, but you need to eat this quickly as the longer you leave it, the tougher it gets.
    * Atlantic salmon – the version we were served may not be the same in the final menu, as it was a large sharing portion. It was soft and flaky, and cooked just enough for the centre to turn. I’m sure the large fillet went through a curing process though, because it was quite salty.
    * Scotch Fillet – the entire fillet was seared on the grill, but just enough for the centre to be perfectly medium-rare. Oddly though, it was tough to cut through, even against the grain, so it wasn’t the most tender piece to chew.
    * Pear & rhubarb crumble – the freshness of the rhubarb was evident, as you get the soft texture of the stalks and the tartness, but it’s all balanced by the creaminess of the ice cream and the rich crumble.

    Dorchester
The Dorchester is the new restaurant opened at the old Phamish site, just across the road from the Palais and Luna Park. The Renovations have added quite a fancy feel, but still welcoming and charming. Think giant mirrors, blue velvet chairs, and giant wall art.
I was lucky enough to attend the launch of the Dorchester.
We started with a golden gaytime cocktail which was tasty as (butterscotch schnapps, tia Maria, baileys, cream).
The entrees we had were tasty with the salt and pepper calamari being my favourite. The mains were a highlight with a medium rare steak and a perfectly cooked salmon fillet. They were served with green beans, roast sweet potato, mashed potato, broccolini, and two delicious salads (a Greek salad and a kale, carrot and beetroot salad).
The salmon was a standout, it was cooked beautifully and had a salty flavourful taste.
You cant beat this location, a cocktail overlooking Luna Park and the Palais in summer is oh so Melbourne.
