Came here to try their crepe cake and cream puffs. First time coming here they sold out of cream puffs so I just tried the crepe cake. Customer service was extremely slow. The crepe cake was layered beautifully and smelt amazing but when tasting it, it just lacked that pandan flavour. I wasnt a fan of the milk tea one either. I decided to go again to get the cream puffs and they were much better than the pandan cake. The matcha was nice however the vanilla was quite sickening ( There was too much cream in the puffs, felt like I was just eating cream, no ratio). The Creme brle was probably my favourite out of three (had a really nice custard filling). Also, the cream puffs are really expensive, $5.50 each? Damn.
A very nice & cozy local place in Furlong Road, the dessert was amazing and delicious. I enjoyed my Soba noodle Salad and Sizzling Steak dish. Coffee was nice. Will visit if we are in the area, right next to an Asian grocery and supermarket, convenient for shopping too.
Yay to a brunch spot in the western suburbs but nay to the super sweet drink I had.
Ordered:
Taro iced latte (L) $7
Review:
Heard about their some what magical taro latte so I decided to give it a try. The interior is spacious, clean and modern. With incredibly nice and accomodating staff and a beautiful cake display, this place definitely gave me nice first impressions. But once I received the taro latte it went down hill from there. I thought I was going to receive a drink with REAL taro hence this place is known for their beverages and being a coffee/brunch place I expect more from powdered artificial taro. I can get this for $3 from a bubble cup in St. Albans, please. Besides that note it was SUPER DUPER sweet, you know the kind of sweet where it makes your throat itchy and causes you to cough a little..it was ridiculous. I had to set it aside for 15 mins so that the ice would melt therefore become less sweeter. Im have a sweet tooth but this was way over board.
Brunch in the western suburbs? Almost unheard of! Located near the Sunshine Hospital, The Usual Joint had been on our radar for some time and we were glad to have visited today. Offering a very ambient and well lit and air conditioned venue that was also dog-friendly, we were seated promptly and excited to see the myriad of options available.
Today with a friend, we ordered the sizzling steak and eggs, Wagyu sliders, chai and Tim Tam frappuccino, as well as some speciality custard bun/rolls that we were told we had to try. The steak dish came with a side of bread and salad, offering a very filling meal. The eggs and meat were good, cooked well with good flavour- just don’t expect a high quality marinate or anything of the sort. The Wagyu sliders were also good, tasting quite tender and much like a juicy burger. Where the spotlight should be shun on however is the drinks and custard tarts. The drinks were delicious, with the chai tasting very unique and the Tim Tam rich with chocolate flavour. The custard tarts we had today were the taro and milk tea, by which both tasted exceptional , almost like Japan’s own winter melon with ice cream of the respective flavours within.
A nice, local brunch venue offering a good selection of foods. Good taste, decent for a feed and definitely very filling. Highly recommend the custard tart things!
Food: 3.5/5

Fantastic affordable brunch food I love that its local and has asian inspired dishes in addition to a regular breakfast menu. Really tasty and wonderful dessert selection. Will definitely come here often!
Less than 2 weeks back from Vietnam and I was craving their steak and eggs sizzling plate and Vietnamese Iced coffee.
Have to say, this was the first time I had ever become disappointed in a Vietnamese Coffee. It just wasn’t what it claimed to be. Basically no condense Milk and i actually enjoy black iced coffees.
Sizzling steak was a good serving although the ham tasted a bit funny and I would have preferred the traditional pate. Tiger Bread was soft when it came warm, but got cold and crunchy (normal and not a bad thing, just have to eat the bread quick if you don’t like crunchy!) Don’t know about the salad with this dish – was basically a filler. Would stick to tradition and have something like their pickles. Steak was cooked perfectly though. I was expecting a low quality steak for this kind of dish but was surprised at how tender and flavoursome it was.
After the disappointing Vietnamese Iced coffee and my friend telling me his cap was a bit weak, i couldn’t risk getting another coffee (was thinking a latte) and ordered an Iced matcha instead – Redeemed!
We had the Taro crepe for dessert. It looks so appetising and instaworthy however it didn’t do it for me. I guess it was…just ok? They had a small sample of the sponge cake and that was much nicer although there’s only a slight detection of the taro flavour.
Ambiance 4/5: casual, trendy, asian fusion cafe.
Service 3/5: I still loath counter service but i guess it’s an easier way to split bills. Team were friendly but Food took a bit longer than average to come out.
Price point 3.5/5: within the average, if not slightly above. Good servings though.
Overall 3/5 (i would give an extra .5 if i could) few things can be improved but wouldn’t deter me from returning.
Steak n eggs?! Now that you dont see everyday! If they could serve some pickled ground chilli with the soy sauce that would be spectacular!
I wonder if tiger bread is the wrong bread for this dish as I believe the rolls that they use for Vietnamese banh mi would be a better option due to its texture and space to add your eggs and all in.
Beverages were great, ordered the taro and matcha. Although the hot chocolate was very basic.
Staff were lovely and attentive, will need to return to try the desserts.
Take your lover, friends and family here.
