Im not sure what happened but I was expecting the food to be really good. I really wanted to support this local business since its close to my home. The food was average and some were well below average. The food looks nothing like the photos posted on this site. Maybe they changed chefs? Quite expensive for what I got compared to what I can get from other restaurants in the area. Sorry. Just sad.
On a lazy night when both my mother and I decided that neither one of us were up to cook dinner, I suggested we go and try Dragon Express – a restaurant that I constantly have to wait by as I waited for my mum to pick me up from the station. It had great reviews, a lot of article clippings plastered on the windows and smelt divine from where I was standing. This shabby and old fashioned restaurant was bigger than it looks. On entering the owner was quick to notice us and helped us to a table, suggesting the round one for the 5 of us as it was bigger. He was really friendly and constantly made jokes with the little ones, offering genuine smiles and returning any thank yous we gave to him. Now, the menu is extensive and we ordered quite a fair bit. What I noticed is that every single item was a very affordable price. Our entree was fried wontons (6 for $3.50) – a favourite of my sister that she always orders. This was a little underwhelming as I wasnt quite sure if it was fried wontons or fried wontons wrappings seeing as the filling was nearly non-existent. I ate one of them very carefully and opened the filling only to find the teeniest bit of prawn, just prawn, in it which was quite the disappointment. However, the main meals after were better. The great? The sizzling steak, lemon chicken, salt and pepper squid and special hokkien noodles (albeit a little salty). The good? The bean curd hot pot and fried rice (this one was clearly fried and then put in the fridge sadly as the rice came out still in clumps). The not-so-good was sadly the curry mee goreng. I wasnt a fan at all as it was far too sour but maybe thats just my taste. However, the food came out within 5-10 minutes of ordering which is good for those hungry peeps who dont like to wait. Not getting the hype but its not bad either. Overall, I wouldnt so much dine here for an outing as I would consider it a takeaway place.
If you’re looking for dirty Chinese food then this is the place to go. They use quite a bit of sauce in majority of the dishes which means the food very tasty but also quite heavy. Menu is HUGE which makes me a little worried about food standards but they have huge turnover and really it’s either chicken, beef or pork with different sauce so it should be good.
Decor is a classic Chinese restaurant; lovely wait staff
I didnt expect much at all when I first ordered from this place and wasnt sure the food was gonna be good too. I was just really hungry but after I have had their sweet and sour pork from here it turns out in my opinion to be one of the best sweet and sour pork I have ever had. I live in COLLINGWOOD but I come to SUNSHNE to get it take-away from this place. So yummy!!!! I will still continue to come here when I can:-))) very affordable price too:)
Enjoyed a range of dishes here. Customer service is fantastic and food came out quickly. The lemon chicken was my favourite. Will definitely be back to try more dishes.
Local favourite. Popular and alwsys busy which is a good sign. Old school and shabby, you don’t go for romance. But the food is consistent and tasty.
My go to Chinese for Sunshine
Authentic environment, the food is definitely worth the prices. The staff work hard and always make sure you have everything right. overall the restaurant has became a regular stop over the last 2 years since discovering.
