If you are looking for an authentic Northern Pho, this is the place you should come. The broth is clear n light as it is supposed to be. Some people say they know Pho n expect the soup to be thick, murky n full of flavour from msg n herbs like cinnamon, star, ect, this is not a right place for you unfortunately.
Being of vietnamese descent, I know my pho and by know, I mean I *know*. Thats to say that my mums pho recipe and those of a select few favourite pho hotspots are tough competitors. I was delighted to know that this place was still open at 8:30pm when I had an unyielding desire for pho kick in and decided that seeing as my favourite pho restaurant in Sunshine was closed, this was a push for me to try someplace new. I ordered a chicken and beef pho to take away and thankfully, it was empty around this time so I received my order very quickly. However, when coming home I was a little confused to see how meagre the amount of pho noodles I was given as well as the lack of condiments that I was used to being given. Theres rarely an occasion where my household doesnt have sriracha or hoisin sauce but unfortunately, today was that once-in-a-blue-moon. Thats okay though, it really isnt the condiments that make the pho anyway; its the broth itself. On tasting the broth, I was disappointed to be met with a lack of flavour which pho should be anything but bereft of. It was bland and pretty much tasteless which I figure might be due to the bones not being boiled for long enough to really bring out the sweetness of the chicken. I was really searching for the noteworthy hints of star anise, cassia bark, and ginger as well. All in all, I dont think it was worth $11 not just in size but also in flavour. While not necessarily distasteful, it didnt leave my tastebuds satisfied. I dont think Ill be back for a while unfortunately. However, I will note that the free range chicken was of great quality. Really could be a game changer.
This place has free range chicken pho like no other pho restaurants. The broth is clear and taste clean (free of msg). The service is the same like any other Vietnamese restaurants, prompt and efficient, however not especially friendly. Many people seem to be ordering the fish noodle soup hai phong style which doesn’t seem to have anywhere else. I’d come here again if I ever feel like chicken pho.
Cuu long is famous for their fresh chicken here – so if youre coming here, order it because this is what makes this restaurant so special. Fresh diced chicken is a Vietnamese speciality served at most family parties. This restaurant serves it on a daily. Its simple and you just dip it in the pepper, chilli and lemon sauce they give you. Fresh, tasty and great along a side of heart pho. My go to hangover spot.
