Lizzies first impression: the restaurant is literally isolated by itself but dont let the looks fool you – it was absolutely packed even on a Monday night! A great place for Peking duck and its cooked three ways – the wrap the soup and then either noodles or rice!
Lizzie enjoyed: the Peking duck is fresh, its roasted perfectly – the meat is tender and juicy and the skin is crispy and not too fatty. The Peking duck is the special here and you cant go without ordering it.
Lizzie did not enjoy: the wrap of the Peking duck is a little too big for my liking, and they should provide more cucumbers and greens next time. (Although Im sure theyll give me more if I asked)
Lizzie rates overall: I absolutely loved it and the service was not bad for a busy Chinese restaurant.
Succulent and perfectly cooked Peking duck. The service was incredible, super efficient at setting up after the first session and the staff were good humoured for the rest of the night. The first duck was sliced at our table. Absolutely delicious. The soup was also very fragrant and we were offered an additional bowl when we finished the first. Evidently a popular dinner spot as it was booked out and continuously bustling all night. Would love to return.
Old Kingdom is renowned for peking duck. We ordered 4 ducks between 12 people. The skin was crispy. The duck noodles had great texture and soaked in duck juice. The fried rice was average. Although the restaurant decor is dated, the food was a redeeming factor. They have two dinner sessions, 6pm and 8pm.
3.5 star I couldnt believe I have never ever been to Old Kingdom ever. I love Peking duck and people kept telling me its good, and I didnt really believe them.
We had the duck three courses for $58 + $8 noodles.
The duck with pancake and it was really good. The skin was crispy, the meat was fresh and tender. My complaint was that the pancake was so sticky and they stuck to each other. I wasnt sure whether its supposed to be super thin or super thick cos they are stuck together. Also there wasnt enough cucumber to go with the pancake.
The duck soup was ok, it was nice but a bit too peppery.
The duck stir fry was great cos we paid an extra $8 to stir fry it with ramen noodles. That was quite yummy.
I am still dreaming about it now and would love to go there again some time.

Things to note before coming to this restaurant:
1) have to book table in advance – very popular place!
2) cash payment only!
3) one Peking duck is big enough for 3-4 adults.
4) you have to pre-order the duck when you call to book the table
5) they will start chasing you out after 1.5 hours there so its not a place to chit chat after meal.
Would still recommend this restaurant for their yummy Peking duck.
Who doesn’t like peking duck am i right?
Though the place is not super extravagant, and it is quite cramp, but they do serve up pretty good peking duck. May need to pre-order before heading there, to ensure you have the quantity you need for your group of diners.
The duck is super juicy and tender (making me drool just thinking of it). If you’ve never had peking duck, and you’re around the Eastern side of Melbourne, do make a trip here as it’ll be worth it.
The other mains that come with the banquet (set with peking duck) is average, though their soup is pretty good.
We visited this place in mid-sep….
Got really disappointed with their food.
This place used to be our familys favourite in the past few years.
It was always packed and terribly stuffy!!
they refused to let us add 1 more guest even if we dont mind to squeeze.
cash only
sweet and sour pork – fat coated with thick layer of batter and tasted mushy
greasy fried noodles
duck soup full of duck necks….
Peking duck- the only dish I would order next time
however only a few thin layers of skins were craved for us.. the duck bone was full of meat when they walked away..
Sorry I left my phone in the car so no photos were taken .. seriously..we are definitely not going back again!
