I chanced by this place when I was looking for a quick lunch. Initially, I was opting for the Domino’s Pizza next door. This place got my attention simply out of sheer luck. I noticed the shop was immaculately clean, well kept and the prices were posted by the door. I was reeled in by the great prices [lunch for $10? Woohoo!] and figured that I should give this place a chance. There is a good number of parking spots outside as well as chairs and tables to dine inside.

I decided to go for the $10 fish and chip pack. It consisted of 1 Flake, 1 Dim Sim, 2 Potato Cakes, a handful of chips and a little container of tartare sauce. Personally, I thought that it was fantastic value for $10. Most fish&chip places are usually shooting for over $13 for packages like this, which made me reluctant to get them. Ten dollars was a nice round number and does not leave me with any pesky loose change.

When I went to collect food after it was ready, I noticed the shopkeeper had stabbed two thin holes on top of the package to let the steam out. A nice touch, I thought.

I was quite pleased with my package. The fish was a great size. It came enveloped in a batter that was crunchy and tasty. The potato cakes were thick with starch, almost overwhelmingly so. I figured that it was probably better this way than having some paper-thin ripoff, so I lauded it. The dimsim was the best item in the package; it was thick, meaty and wonderfully delicious. I would be keen to get more in the future.

The chips however, were rather disappointing. Maybe it was just bad luck, but all turned out to be tiny crappy little end bits. There were hardly any nice long ones. They also did not taste particularly fresh, either. Despite having being deep fried in hot oil less than an hour ago, the potato flavour was bland, borderline stale and flat. Not even the salt could mask that.

The prices here are some of the best that I have seen. If economical is on your agenda, definitely seek this place out. The food is definitely filling and tasty to a reasonable degree – because c’mon, how do you go wrong with fish and chips?
