10 Reviews on “Canterbury Road Fish & Chips”
Very disappointed with the fish and chips provided by this place. The chips and fish themselves are nothing special, but more importantly they are incredibly over-priced. We ordered for a group of people and it was the first time ordering here…going off previous experience at other fish and chip establishments (such as Flake Haven on Mitcham road and Captain’s Choice at Brentford Square) we ordered what would usually be MORE than enough for the amount of people we were feeding, and actually could not believe how little we received. $10 worth of chips at any other establishment is usually bucketloads. At this place, we received two VERY small boxes that were not even filled. Could not believe what a rip off it was.
The brochure says new management , but I am not sure how recent was that. Although they are a stone throw away, I have never ordered anything from them before. Thought today will be the day….
The pluses are the place is clean, the flake is still crunchy after bringing it home. And the portion generous. The service is quick too though there’s hardly anyone there today when I ordered.
The fries are only so so. Despite what I read in the reviews here, it hasn’t got the crisp on the outside that I crave for.
What’s disappointing is the burger with the lot. Again the generous proportion is compromised by the taste. It tasted ‘safe’. It was chomped down with little fanfare. Clearly not impressed
Overall, another average fare.
Amazing chips. Crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. The fish was also delicious and cooked to perfection. My partner had a burger with the lot, the bun was stale which was the only let down. The best thing was that the fish and chips weren’t soggy! Accepts card, no minimum.
UPDATE
went back here for fish and chips tonight and was soooo disappointed they’re obviously doing some serious cost cutting because at first sight the potato cakes looked huge but the actual potato was wafer thin. The fish was also the same. The chips were ok, not as crunchy as last time but not bad. Changing my rating from 4.5 to 2
Seriously love this place. We’ve gone for years – we used to live around the corner. Changed hands 3 times in that time, and now it’s better than ever. I now drive 15 minutes most weekends for our fish and chips – there are a good 10+ places closer, and none are better. I honestly don’t get why people aren’t rating this place 5 stars. The portions are massive. they don’t undercook stuff and leave you with soggy fish and chips, the batter isn’t too thick. And since the new owners and fitout, it’s clean and great. 10 years in the area now – and this place is better than ever.
All the negative feedback is from previous owner (Flakeys)
This is like Flakeys before the last owner,
Very nice food and plenty of it
I would recommend 110%
Take note ! New owners since about July 2015
New owners have been in the fish and chip business for many years, and it shows !
Their fish, chips, burgers and souvs all cooked to perfection and priced reasonably compared to other shops in the area.
I’ve finally found it! A great fish n chip shop in the Vermont/Mitcham area.
New owners are doing a great job.
Chips & Potato cakes crispy and yummy, not soggy like many others.
Can’t review their fish, as I had a kebab and it was loaded with really nice lamb without lots of fatty bits.
Very very clean since the renovations, bright, and inviting.
Reasonably priced, probably slightly cheaper than up mitcham rd.
This is now my new and fantastic local fish n chip shop.
