I got a serve of the spicy chicken ribs! Even though theyre not really ribs itself, more so pieces of chicken battered and deep fried, the taste and seasoning was good! The spring rolls, even though asked for pork filling, Im sure it was just vegetables but still had a palatable taste. Price is seriously low and that may serve as a good thing for West Siders! I also got a chicken and corn soup which I cant fault and prawn toast which Id say the same! Overall a 4 for the taste. 5 for service and price!
My score 3.5+ (gained half a star for value). J & I picked up lunch from here today after doing some shopping. Old school Chinese takeaway. Run down exterior that almost looks like the place is closed permanently – interior has seen better days. Part of the customer area covered with LOTS of boxes of TA containers & Uber bags (business must be ok). Woman serving us was pleasant – she was prepping food for the kitchen while we checked out the menu. The prep area for the kitchen is seriously in plain sight & some hardcore vegans/vegetarians may feel a bit squeamish at the sight of so much raw meat. We ordered: Large vego fried rice > really cheap, lots of veg, not bad at all (very pleasantly surprised). Fried veg & bean curd > pretty cheap, lots of veg, ok sauce/gravy. Let down by only 3 pieces of bean curd (which was tasty though) – overall still pretty good. Salt & pepper chilli squid > bargain – came with a paper bag instead of a lid (neat idea), but was still a little less crispy than we would have liked (even though less than 10 min away – not WC TA’s fault of course). Plenty of seasoning & (non-chewy) squid – if I had it again I would ask for even more chillies (update – I have & I did – it tastes even better)! Not the best we’ve had, but nowhere near the worst – probably of the cost of the next cheapest place we’ve had it at recently (dine in). Almost forgot – got a free small serve of Prawn crackers too! Overall meal > Ok Chinese for what it is & pretty good value ($24.50 & we have some of the rice & veg dish left over). Not sure if it’s the salt &/or MSG, but I am a bit thirsty typing this…
