A solid 4 for me on todays experience. The Angliss on a good day is one of this citys great experiences. Today the students were being led by Phillipe Moucel of Phillipe. What a superb lunch. New season chestnut veloute was the entree. Beef cheek the main. You cant do these dishes better than what they were done here today. They were superb: the veloute was gorgeous and silky smooth with beautiful delicate flavour, the beef cheek done as well as Ive ever had it before. Dark, sticky, slightly sweet, deeply flavoured and wonderfully satisfying. Wow. These dishes were as outstanding as any top restaurant can deliver. I wasnt as big a fan of the dessert but it was pretty and it had its merits. We were served matching Scotchman Hill wines throughout – a Chardonnay, a Shiraz and and a late Harvest riesling. Service was lovely throughout from the students. If you choose the right great chefs lunch or dinner the Angliss really is one of the truly great bargains of the great city of Melbourne.
