Dolcetti cannot be faulted for its sweets or coffee. It is perfection in every way. It is 100% authentic Sicilian which uses the best ingredients seasonally.
My all time favourite is the Budino that usually pops up during winter, its so light, yet creamy & moorish.
I also love the Mimosa tart that shows up in the summer. The fresh pineapple along with the custard & cream offers the most amazing texture. The Ricotta Canoli is to die for, though I think they would be better in the larger original size rather than the smaller type. You always want more!
The cafe itself is cute, quaint, humble but small. It has an old Italian vibe that offers nostalgia in a city that moves forward for modern.
Dolcetti can get quite busy on weekends & when the weather is nice. There is usually people waiting for a table, but some regulars tend to think they own VIP status & believe they can sit there as long as they like, even when they can see people are waiting. Dolcetti only has about 4 tables inside that seat 2 patrons & the VIP crew love to join the tables & hog up the space & act like they own the place.
Customer service is quite polite & very accommodating from the Baristas. They usually have a beautiful nature & beautiful personalities. I do believe that the owner can pick & choose who she is friendly with & if you are not in the know she wont make effort to say hi or greet you. Sadly, getting her attention depends on who you are, which is a shame. It can make you feel unappreciated as a customer when she greets & makes conversation with others & doesnt even give
you eye contact.
Overall perfect sweets, gorgeous whole cakes but it could be friendlier.
A true Italian gem!! So close to Vic Market. OMG best pillowy donut I’ve ever had in Melbourne without a greasy mouthfeel…. Love the bombolone with chocolate custard and the casateddi filled with ricotta! It stays permanently on my REGULARs list! 🙂
Located in North Melbourne this is one of those places that I desperately wish was closer to home. I try and call in whenever I can and am never disappointed. Visited at 9.30 am this morning and tried one of their amazing fig brioche. Still warm from the oven it is quite simply one of the loveliest pastries I have ever eaten. All savoury and sweet items I have tried have been delicious. The nougat is always wonderful as are the soups in Winter and a special tip – close to Easter they make amazing hot cross buns. A Melbourne treasure.
My mum and I literally just walked into this little jewel of a cafe / bakery after visiting the lovely ‘Star of the Sea’ Catholic Church just nearby.
Small, basic but also welcoming at the same time. You get a sense that it has been here a long time. No pretensions, just a place that has obviously built a well deserved reputation.
The food here is beautifully made, and they make a great coffee too. The take away selection of small pastries and little cakes, just amazing. And the nougat blocks …
All baked / made on premises.
Will be going back, if you are in the area… pop in
5/5 from me and mum.
Dolcetti is an unassuming Italian bakery that I wish I’d discovered sooner. They use great quality ingredients here, with my favourite item being the pear and pistachio tart. The thin slices of pear and layer of pistachio frangipane was absolutely delicious on top of the flakey and buttery pastry crust. True to the Italian heritage, Dolcetti also offers a range of bite-sized amaretti biscuits and I particularly liked taste and texture of the pistachio amaretti. I found their best selling cassateddi slightly too sweet with the sugar coating, however, the ricotta encased in the brioche was lovely nonetheless. The savoury pastries here are great too!
Wonderful little Sicilian bakery near Queen Vic Market. Absolutely delicious pastries- seriously some of the best Italian baked goods in Melbourne. Must try the cassateddi – a Sicilian brioche pastry filled with sweetened ricotta – absolutely amazing! Make sure you take home a selection of the biscuits as well. Lovely staff and great service rounds out a really delicious experience.
