Good service and food and coffee . Good laid back service even though they forgot to bring the menus to work today. Don’t let the simple laid look deceive you!

A literal minutes’ walk up from Clarice Cottage in King Valley is the Whitty Café. We had breakfast here and, while the food and coffee isn’t going to win any awards, it’s acceptable.

As always an excellent stop between the Ovens Valley & Mansfield heading back to Melbourne. Since discovering the ‘Whitty’ a couple of years ago, we always make it a requirement when returning from holidaying up in Yackandandah that instead of the quicker freeway back to Melbourne, we divert down the King Valley to Whitfield to the Whitty Cafe (and then continue up and over the sealed mountain road to Mansfield). The food is delicious, reasonably priced and well presented. Service is prompt and the owners always up (if not to busy) for a chat. This is good country town diner food – it is not cordon bleu so if you go don’t rate it as such. The Plougmans lunch (my partners meal) was full of a variety of nuts, vegetables, cheese and meats with bread – so much its hard to finish. My ‘Whitty burger’ was fresh, with good ingredients and a good portion of crisp chips. The Whitty also sells locally made produce (generally jams and relishes) and also serves cakes and coffee (although never had any cake there it was always lunch). The Whitty cafe has a nice outdoor seating area (but undercover) for those days if you bring your dog or its sunny and hot but you want to sit outside.
