A group of us came here for dinner on a Saturday. We decided to go with the chef’s sharing menu. The food was pretty good. My favourites were the soft shell crab brioche roll, duck curry and slow cooked beef ribs. The food kept coming and we were well fed. The pistachio semifreddo dessert was also a delight and a good end to the meal. The Amoktale was also delicious and refreshing! We will be returning.
First time trying Cambodian food and loving it. I ordered the Duck Curry and Eggplant chips. They are both amazing and I really recommend the duck curry. The staff was so friendly and attentive. One of my memorable restaurants in Windsor.
Beautiful food that is just like the neighborhood it is in – eclectic and really tasty. If you are vegan then they have a great range and can cater for allergies as well. Service is friendly and attentive. Had a great cocktail. A Cambodia style menu with a modern twist. Lovely!
Due to what I am deeming crazy Christmas capacity we were unable to get into our venue of choice for dinner last night given you typically dont need a reservation to your average pizza joint but apparently yesterday you did. We went to the exotic extremes of our first Cambodian experience instead (and admittedly had to battle for a table there too).
I have to say I was pleasantly surprised with this style of cuisine. It was contemporary and flavoursome. Our entrees were my all time favourite betel leaf, a salmon rendition cured in aperol, vodka and coconut juice. I could have happily eaten hundreds. We also had the fried cauliflower with coconut cream and honey yoghurt, delicious.
It took a while for our mains to come and we were starving but they were worth waiting for. I chose the salmon which was listed on the menu simply as fish amok but came with kind of a red curry style sauce and some dehydrated vegetable chips. This was perfectly cooked and exceptionally tasty.
The only real disappointment was the rice. Fortunately we had also ordered a side of eggplant chips. This read as though it was to be plated with other accompaniments but I suppose maybe they were in the batter? It was sweeter than other versions Ive tried and I liked the yoghurt dipping sauce. It was stated as chilli yoghurt but it didnt even have a mild kick which was fine with me.
Would definitely recommend, I was thoroughly impressed. And having learned since dining that the chef and owner is ex Coda and Tonka it all makes sense. The only thing I dont understand is why I hadnt tried it before
Having recently returned from Cambodia myself, it is a grea pleasure to be able to consume the hearty and modern flavours offered through the dishes at Amok. Absolutely blown away by the incredible flavours and Amok’s modern-take on the beautiful Khmer cuisine featured from Cambodia. The dining area is beautifully laid out with traditional lamps that provide dim-lighting help to create a perfect night-out atmosphere. The staff are very patient and kind, adding towards our pleasant dining experienceat Amok.
The Crispy Cambodian Fried Chicken was definitely a favourite!! Offering large pieces of lightlyfried chicken ribs alongside an original and tangy green tea mayo dip. My favourites would have to be their Tasmanian salmon fish amok! An absolute winner of the night! My only complaint is that for $30, the ‘big’ fish can be considered on the small side (for my appetite!); the offering of the fish was generous, but I would love to have more of the actual amok!
The texture of the amok itself was silky smooth, and the flavour was powerful without any hint of hotness at all- and is rich yet not overpowering (kudos to the chefsfor creating such a beautiful dish!)
The local garden vegetables in Cambodian red kroeung karihad a lovely zesty and seasonally fresh taste to the sauce! The chips seem to almost come with every dish (I wish we could purchase it as a side, too!); so incredibly fresh and crunchy, without the grease and oil of many fried sweet potato/taro chips!!
An absolutely wonderful dining experience that I would recommend to absolutely everyone! The Cambodian cuisine is quite underrated and non-existent in Melbourne, and I’m so grateful that this restaurant, Amok, is able to render the traditional cuisine justice through its modern flavours whilst still preserving the culture and flavours of the customary cuisine. Final verdict; will 100% be returning to this hidden gem in Windsor!
Amok-Cant believe I didnt know about this place before. Definitely one of my new favourites everything on the menu looked amazing! The crispy chicken wings were unbelievable and the lamb was so flavourful. Its modern Cambodian like youve never had before and theres so many options theres something for everyone
