Im a big sucker for sushi trains, so when I discovered there was one in Windsor, I had to go try it out. Before coming, I looked on the menu and I felt like it was very underwhelming, but hey, theres only one way to find out.
We came here on a Friday night. Located amongst the rowdy busy night life of Chapel Street, this restaurant seemed more dead than busy. Most restaurants along the strip were pretty packed however being an open restaurant, we got there looked inside and there were around 40 seats and only 2 seats were taken. Not sure if that was an early sign to leave. We were seated and I felt like the waitress was trying to be helpful explaining to us about how to order but she did it so fast and in your face that I felt very uncomfortable from the get go.
We looked on the train and there wasnt much of a selection. We flipped through the iPad and again, not much to pick from. Compared to other places, there wasnt much variety at all. I started ordering dishes until I realised how much a standard dish really costed. A standard salmon nigiri was $4.50?? Thats sooooooooooo expensive! Most places Ive tried, the standard salmon nigiris are usually $3.80 below. The kingfish cost $5.50… just a normal plate of kingfish for crying out loud! Im sorry but thats just way too overpriced. The seared salmon was an extra dollar more than the standard sashimi! Cmon thats discrimination. I honestly didnt know it was this expensive coming in, I was in shock. But putting price aside, was the fish worth the buck? No not really. There wasnt anything wow about the fish. It wasnt bad nor was it good. I left feeling unsatisfied.
Would I return? Definitely better sushi trains in Melbourne, that arent so overprice (lets be real tho, theyre all pretty overpriced compared to Japan).
My partner and I ate here, this was the second time Ive been to a sushi train restaurant. The restaurant is nice, service was good.
The selection was ok but it wasnt mind blowing. The food itself was good but my tastebuds were expecting more excitement.
If youre thinking of going Id recommend it to try, however its fair to say that Id prob give this a miss next time. It didnt really blow me away to go back a second time.
