Why is it called the railway hotel? Anyone with two ounces of nabo knowledge would know that it is because it’s right next to Windsor station. And if you’re not lucky enough to live in the lovely South this is very convenient for a little stumble home with mates post-pints.
It’s summer time, so do everyone a favour and walk up the stairs: Welcome to the open air component of Railway Windsor. It’s got couches and an almost costal feel with the occasional whiff of that St StKilda ocean air. Really settles the tummy!
Tap beers have the sort I like (Boags?) And there’s a wine list too I am sure. One of the cooler features was the time I was here there was basketball on the TV. No point sitting to watch it when you can stream to phone because a sports bar this ain’t. Yes the clientele have a bit of the fancy about them but don’t let that put you off because so soon you will all be getting along.
This is a place for mates so bring them if you got them.. if not, maybe a cafe would be better suited to the Solo life
The Railway Hotel is like a Vietnamese roll; lots of ingredients all rolled up in one. Take your pick whether you keep it casual and hang out in the downstairs bar, join the Sunday sesh rooftop deck ritual, go full foodie in the formal Highline Restaurant, or dont remove your Peter Alexanders and head straight for the 24-hour Thirsty Camel bottle-o.

Gotta say one the best value for $$ meals I’ve had in Melbourne, 6 of us just ate at the Railway, $16 each, 3 different absolute brilliant meats, 5 sides. Put together with one of the best happy hours around.
Can’t wait to do it again.
